Before 1st April 2015, only one model of hybrid electric vehicle was available in the country and its sale was very limited. However, after the launch of FAME-India Scheme, incentive is being given for purchase of hybrid and electric vehicles. This resulted into more availability of hybrid and electric vehicles and also resulted into increase in sale of hybrid and electric vehicles. Against last year sale of 477 vehicles, this year total sale of hybrid vehicles is more than 15000 vehicles till November, 2015.
There is an ambitious target to achieve 6-7 million sales of hybrid and electric vehicles year on year from 2020 onwards. Government aims to provide fiscal and monetary incentives to kick start this nascent technology. With the support from the Govt., the cumulative sale is expected to reach 6-7 Million by 2020.
Incentives in the form of upfront reduced purchase price are already notified and is being extended to buyers.
