Minister for Law and Justice Participates in Clean India Campaign Directs All Officers to Carry Forward the Initiative

The Minister for Law and Justice and Telecom and IT, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, today (26.09.2014) launched cleanliness drive at ShastriBhawan compound as part of the Prime Minister, Shri NarendraModi’sfavourite initiative under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission).The mission is part of Prime Minister NarendraModi-led government's initiative to clean India by October 2, 2019, the 150 birth anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi. 

Speaking on the occasion Shri Prasad said, “We aspire to have a clean India by 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of father of the nation Mahatama Gandhi. The mission was started yesterday, coinciding with the 98 birth anniversary of PanditDeendayalUpadhyaya, our ideologue, a great Indian.” It is not symbolic, but is a new beginning in India to make Clean India a mass movement, he added. 

On the occasion Shri Prasad called upon all his senior officers in various departments all over the country to take this initiative further to rightful conclusion and ensure that all campuses under his ministries have new and refreshing look by 2nd of October, the Gandhi Jayanti. He further informed that as part of his campaign to carry forward Swachch Bharat Abhiyan, he will be leading a cleaning programme at Patna Railway Station on October 2. 

Mr Prasad said, “Our Prime Minister NarendraModi has said that cleanliness is next to godliness and he envisions to make India clean by 2019 as a tribute to Bapu.” Yesterday, the Prime Minister in his statement on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan had said: “On October 2, we are launching Swachh Bharat Mission, a massive mass movement that seeks to create a Clean India. Cleanliness was very close to Mahatma Gandhi's heart. A clean India is the best tribute we can pay to Bapu when we celebrate his 150 birth anniversary in 2019.”
