New Technique to be used for Replacing Existing Sewers
With an objective to rehabilitate and replace the existing sewers in the walled city of Jaipur, a new project has been undertaken by the Nagar Nigam Jaipur (NNJ) to be implemented under JnNURM. The project comprises:
i) Replacement of undersized existing sewers to be done with designed size by Pipe Bursting technology
ii) Rehabilitation of existing sewer size which is adequate for design period but damaged lines with Machine Spiral Wound Liner (MSWL) technology and Cured in placed piped (CIPP) technology.
These technologies are environment friendly in terms of causing minimal dust pollution as well as minimum disruption to the locality since not much digging required.
The project, with a proposed total cost of Rs 41281.00 lakhs was approved in principle during the meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) under Urban Infrastructure and Governance (UIG), JnNURM held in Delhi recently. In the meeting it was decided that the first installment for the project will be released only when the Urban Local Body (ULB) passes a resolution for collection of 100% user charges and further approved by the State Government.
The implementation period of the project is 24 months and it falls under the territorial limits of Urban Agglomeration. Further, it has been proposed that from the year 2015, Rs. 570 lakh will be generated as part of revenue on account of sewer cess against existing revenue generation of Rs. 114 lakh.
In addition to improving the efficiency in redressal of customer complaints, cost recovery of sewage management and collection of user charges, the proposed project will be a major step to reduce contamination of drinking water.
