In order to make National Highways green, clean and pollution free, the National Highways Authority of India has planted 2.59 lakh plants in last one year. It has also been decided to institutionalize plantation as an integral part of highway development. A PMIS portal is also being developed for monitoring of the plantation progress.

They have been advised to involve concessionaires, contractors, civil society, Forest Department and other stakeholders. The Green Highways Division of NHAI has circulated the list of suitable species to be planted in the monsoon season.

NHAI is committed to make national highways green, clean and pollution free. This plantation drive will continue as a regular activity during monsoons and even after that with watering and maintenance thereon.
