The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has formulated an Umbrella Scheme for Education of ST students by merging the following erstwhile Centrally Sponsored Schemes being implemented by the Ministry.
I. Pre Matric Scholarship for ST Students
II. Post Matric Scholarship for ST Students
III. Setting up of Ashram Schools in Tribal Sub-Plan Area
IV. Scheme of Hostels for ST Boys and Girls
V. Scheme of Vocational Training in Tribal Areas
Based on the past experience and evaluation, the revised scheme has been designed to cater to specific needs of states and UTs. It would provide a cafeteria mode of options for States/UTs to draw upon according to their specific needs and priorities in a bottom of approach. The merged scheme has been approved by the Expenditure Finance Committee in the year 2014. However, approval of the Cabinet is awaited.
