Ministry of Information & Broadcasting nominates Satish Shah, Bhawana Somaaya and Brijendra Pal Singh as members of FTII Society

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has nominated Shri Satish Shah and Ms. Bhawana Somaaya as members of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society. Their nominations are in the category of “persons of eminence connected with Films and Television Education, Journalism, Literature, Fine Arts, Dramatics, Performing Arts, etc”. 

The Ministry has also nominated Shri Brijendra Pal Singh as member of FTII Society in the category of “alumni of FTII”. 

Shri Satish Shah is an actor who has done films as well as television. He is perhaps best known for his roles in the popular 80’s sitcom “Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi” in which he played more than 60 different characters in one year. He is also famous for playing the role of Municipal Commissioner, D’Mello in the cult 1983 movie, “Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro”. He has completed over 200 feature films till date. 

Ms. Bhawana Somaaya is a noted film journalist, critic, author and historian. She began her career as a film reporter in 1978, and went on to work with several film magazines through the 1980s and 1990s. She was an Editor with the leading film magazine, “Screen”, from 2000 to 2007. She has also authored books on the history of Hindi cinema and biographies of Bollywood stars. She shifted to television in 2008, when she joined Swastik Pictures, a television production company, as a consultant. In May 2012 she began appearing on air, as a Friday-film reviewer and later that year joined “Blockbuster”, a newly launched film trade magazine. 

Shri Brijendra Pal Singh or B.P. Singh studied at FTII, and is a television producer, and is the creator and director-producer of the TV series C.I.D., which began in 1997. This series is the longest running TV series in the country. Shri B.P. Singh started his career with Doordarshan in 1973 as a news cameraman and went on to handle the camera for another 10 years.
