Rashtrapati Bhavan Books- A Narrative for Posterity

Rashtrapati Bhavan has undertaken several initiatives to preserve its rich cultural, historical and social legacy, which includes publishing books on this high office.  Taking this forward, the Publications Division has published of high quality books on various aspects of the President’s official residence and functioning. These books will form an excellent source of reference material, and will help bringing the Rashtrapati Bhavan and its functioning closer to the public.

Two books in this prestigious series were brought out by the Publications Division last year.


These were Winged Wonders of Rashtrapati Bhavan (about various species of birds found in the RB premises) and Indradhanush  (compendium of cultural events at the Rashtrapati Bhavan) .

Four more volumes have been  released on 25th July 2015, at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan to commemorate the three years of completion of Shri Pranab Mukherjee’s presidency.

A brief description of the books is as under:

1. Selected Speeches (Volume I)- Pranab Mukherjee , The President of India



This volume of Selected Speeches of President Pranab Mukherjee includes fifty two speeches including Addresses to the Nation,  Parliament and State Legislatures, Judiciary and Constitutional Bodies, Armed Forces, and  on  Commemorative Events.  The speeches included in this volume reflect his thinking on some of the core issues that concern our nation.

2. Selected Speeches (Volume II)- Pranab Mukherjee, The President of India



The speeches in this volume are delivered at Institutions of Higher Learning,  State Banquets and Foreign Visits.  The President has addressed students and teachers across the country and convened annual conferences of Vice Chancellors of Central Universities, Directors of IITs and NITs as well as heads of the IISERs and IISc., and his views on the important issue of education are recorded in this Volume.  Over the course of the last three years, the President has hosted a number of visiting Heads of State and also visited many countries. His thoughts on India’s foreign policy and diplomacy are also contained in this book.

3. Right of the Line - The President’s Bodyguard



This collector’s book chronicles the history and traditions of the President’s Bodyguard, the oldest regiment of the Indian Army that serves as the household cavalry to the President of India.  This book traces the history and ethos of this remarkable regiment and captures the social camaraderie, stories of bravery and the rich traditions that the regiment has accumulated over the past 240 years.  The book has been produced in collaboration with the IGNCA.

4. Abode Under the Dome


This informative book documents visits by foreign dignitaries to India from 1947 to 1967. Filled with little known anecdotes and rare photographs, this book introduces an interesting aspect of diplomacy to the common public.   This beautifully designed and well researched book is authored by Dr. Thomas Mathew, Additional Secretary in the President’s Secretariat.  The book gives a glimpse of life under the dome and takes the reader through some of the lesser known pages of history.

Three more books in this series documenting the high office of the Rashtrapati are scheduled to be brought out by the Publications Division in December 2015.
