Better script work is always helpful for good quality animation movies, says Shilpa Ranade, director of the Hindi film `Gopi Gawaiya Bagha Bajaiya`. Her film was screened at the inaugural of the 18th International Children`s film festival India in Hyderabad.
Speaking to the media here on Saturday at the main venue of 18th ICFFI, she said that her 78-minute animation film is the story of Gopi and Bagha, two musicians gifted with magical powers by the King of Ghosts. The film is the Hindi version of Satyajit Ray`s popular Bengali film `Gupi Gayen Bagha Bayen`.
Ayodhya Kumar Krishnamsetty, director of Minugurulu (Fire Fliers), film is the only Telugu film in the ‘Competition Live Action’ category at the festival. Who also spoke on the occasion said “Children of visually-challenged are capable of doing anything like normal children,” 40 visually impaired children were part of the movie. I took three years to complete the preparatory works of the film, he added.
Nagaraju Manjule, the director of Marati movie ‘Fandry’ (a type of wild pig), said that there are very few children movies made in India due to variety of reasons. His film is about a boy from an “untouchable” caste, who strives to impress a socially superior schoolmate. The film was the winner of the Mumbai festival’s jury grand prize.
Batul Mukhtiar, director of ‘Kaphal’, says Indian cinema is dominated by the commercial movies and has a little to scope for children movies. Her movie is all about the children in the hilly region. It was shot in the remote villages of Rudraprayag. She says that the workshop conducted before the shooting of the film was an excellent idea.
