The Constitution Day was celebrated with enthusiasm throughout the country today. Nationwide Preamble Reading led by the President, Shri Ram NathKovind and Prime Minister’s valedictory address at the 80th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference, Kevadia, Gujarat were the key highlights of the events organized today.

Addressing the valedictory session of the Presiding Officers’ Conference, Shri Modi stressed upon the importance of duties and said that duties should be treated as the source of rights, dignity and self-confidence. The Prime Minister said that Mahatma Gandhi saw a close link between rights & duties who felt that once we perform our duties, rights will automatically be safeguarded. The Prime Minister said as KYC-Know Your Customer is the key aspect of digital security, KYC- Know Your Constitution can be a big safeguard for the Constitutional safety shield. He emphasised that the language of our laws should be simple and accessible to the common people so that they feel a direct connection with every law. He also said that the process for weeding out the obsolete laws should be simple and suggested that there should be an automatic system of repealing the old laws as we amend them. The Conference was addressed by the President, Sh Ram NathKovind;the Vice President, ShVenkaiah Naidu; and the LokSabha Speaker, Shri Om Birla on its opening day yesterday.

The concluding session of the 80th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference was followed by a press conference addressed by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla. He informed that the Presiding Officers have taken a decision to honour the Best State Legislature, to be nominated by a committee to be formed for this purpose. He further disclosed that the State Legislatures will organize local programmes throughout the year, involving people’s representatives, starting from panchayat levels, on their role and responsibilities and accountability towards people.Special emphasis will remain on youth awareness about the fundamental rights and duties as enshrined in our Constitution.

To mark the occasion, the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Shri Prakash Javadekarunveiled an e-compendium of articles on the Constitution, Fundamental Rights and Fundamental Duties in New Delhi today.The e-book contains thirty-two articles by eminent personalities from various walks of life including Justices, industrialists and artists. The book, originally planned as a coffee table book has been released as an e-compendium for a wider reach.

Among other activities, the celebration of Constitution Day was marked by organisation of hundreds of activities including webinars, exhibitions, Essay Competition, Poster Competition, Quiz Competition, Slogan Competition, Regional Webinars, E-banners, Digital Exhibition & Talks, releasing of video & audio spot, publication of articles in Newspapers, discussions on the fundamental duties of citizens among others.

Nearly 30 webinars were organized by the Regional and Branch offices of Press Information Bureau (M/o Information and Broadcasting) throughout the country on various themes related to the Constitution including Fundamental duties and Responsibilities. Academicians, legal and Judicial Experts and representatives of media participated in these webinars.

To involve the youth, countrywide activities were organised by Nehru YuvaKendras of M/o Youth Affairs and Sports. Nearly 18 Lakh NYKS Officials, Youth Volunteers and other associated stakeholders read Preamble of Indian Constitution along with the President of India. Webinars/Talks on Constitutional Values and Fundamental Duties (KartavayaSamvaad) with the participation of 4.27 Lakh Youth Volunteers from 81,473 Villages of 623 Districts of all States/UTs were organized. Besides, a link to get a certificate after Reading Preamble of Constitution was shared among all Youth Volunteers of NYKS which they are downloading, across the country.
