Consistent decline in Left Wing Extremism related violence in the country during last five years


LWE related incidents reduce by over 38% in 2019, in comparison to 2014: Shri G. Kishan Reddy

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, in a written replies to questions regarding measures taken by government to tackle Naxal Violence, in Rajya Sabha today, said that steadfast implementation of the National Policy and Action Plan - 2015 has resulted in consistent decline in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) related violence in the country during last five years. In 2019, the number of LWE related incidents have reduced by over 38% in comparison to 2014.

The Minister informed the House that large, mini and micro Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have been deployed in support of anti Left Wing Extremist operations. Further, the number of Security Force (SF) personnel killed in the violence has reduced from 317 in 2009 to 52 in 2019. Number of Security Force (SF) personnel and Left Wing Extremists killed in LWE related incidents during last five years are as under:-
