Intellectual Property Rights

The Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) is implementing a scheme “Building Awareness on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs)” for MSMEs, to enhance the competitiveness of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector, under the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Programme (NMCP). The objective of the scheme is to enhance awareness of MSMEs about IPRs to take measure for protecting their ideas and business strategies. The MSME sector is benefited therefrom through various activities such as: Awareness/Sensitization Programmes; Pilot Studies for Selected Clusters/Groups of Industries; Interactive Seminars/Workshops; Specialized Training; Assistance for Grant on Patent/GI Registration, Setting up of IP Facilitation Centre & Interaction with International Agencies. 

Under the scheme provision, thirty one (31) Intellectual Property Facilitation Centres (IPFCs) for MSME Sector have been set up in the country to facilitate MSMEs. Since it is a demand driven scheme, one MSME has been provided grants for grant of patent during the last three years including the current year. 

This information was given by the Minister of State, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Shri Giriraj Singh in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha here today.
