Successful Training Launch of Prithvi - II Missile

Prithvi-II Missile launched from Chandipur Range on October 07, 2013.


A missile unit of the elite Strategic Forces Command (SFC) successfully launched the indigenously developed surface-to-surface nuclear capable Prithvi-II missile with a strike range of 350 kms from the test range at Chandipur, off the Odisha Coast today. The launch was flawless and the missile splashed down at its pre-designated target with precision. The launch clearly establishes the well-honed drills and skills of SFC units in undertaking independent unit launches.
This is what the Commanding Officer of the missile unit had to say ‘Such successful training launches clearly indicate our operational readiness to meet any eventuality as also establishes the reliability and credibility of this deterrent component of India’s Strategic arsenal to meet future security challenges’.
The DRDO produced indigenous missile was randomly selected from the stock held with SFC units for this regular training exercise. Equipped with improved high accuracy navigation and maneuvering system, the missile achieved all its targeting and technical parameters, set out for this training exercise.

Great achievement by SFC and DRDO, Prithvi-II is a tactical surface-to-surface short-range ballistic missile designed to accurately intercept targets located at a distance of 350km. the 9m-long single-stage liquid-propelled missile can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads ranging from 500kg to 1,000kg payloads, and also features measures to deceive anti-ballistic missiles.
