Sowing of kharif crops has picked up further in this week. The total sown area as on 19th July, as per reports received from States, stands at 620.20 lakh hectare as compared to 506.21 hectare at this time last year.

The increase of 50% as far as pulses cultivation is very interesting, wish the same tempo should be continued for next few years by enhancing 50 % of previous years cultivation acerage to reduce the pulses imports and make pulses self sufficient, with GOI FOOD SECURITY certainly the demand for pulses will raise, Pulses being a basic protein replenishing food for all ages.
