Nomination of Majuli Island as World Heritage Site

The Minister of Culture Smt. Chandresh Kumari Katoch has said that the following nomination dossiers have been submitted to the World Heritage Centre for inscription in the World Heritage List of UNESCO in the last three years:

2010:

1. Shantiniketan
2. Western Ghats (Natural/Mixed)

2011:
1. Hill Forts of Rajasthan
2. Qutb Shahi Monuments of Hyderabad

2012:
1. Qutb Shahi Monuments of Hyderabad
2. Majuli Island
3. Great Himalayan National Park (Natural/Mixed)

2013:
1. Rani-ki-Vav
2. Khangchendzonga National Park (Natural/Mixed)


In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on March 6, 2013 Smt. Katoch said, the revised nomination dossier on Majuli Island was again submitted to the World Heritage Centre but in view of revision of Operational Guidelines and a pending ICOMOS evaluation mission, nomination needs to be further worked out. Government of Assam is taking up the revision of nomination and ASI will extend technical support in the process.
