NCST issues notices to the CS and DGP of Chhattisgarh

National Commission for Schedule Tribes (NCST) has dispatched its team to Raigarh in Chhattisgarh to enquire into the death of Jai Lal Rathiya. The Commission has also issued notices to the Chief Secretary (CS) and Director General of Police (DGP) of Chhattisgarh on the reported death of Jai Lal Rathiya in the mysterious circumstances. Taking sub-moto cognizance of the case and considering it a serious one, the Commission has directed the CS and DGP to investigate the matter including available forensic evidences and submit their report at the earliest.

Earlier the Commission on the directives of its Chairman Shri Nand Kumar Sai had directed the District Collector and Superintendant of Police of Raigarh District to conduct fair inquiry into the death of Shri Ratiya and to preserve his ashes till the investigation is over.

A section of the media had reported that Shri Rathiya died in mysterious circumstances on March 17, 2017. It was also reported that he has brought to the notice of the administration that 300 acre. of land belonging to the ST’s in Kharsia area was illegally transferred. The media also reported that he was fighting against land mafia and was cremated without postmortem.
