PM Shri Narendra Modi attends Valedictory Function of Vigilance Awareness Week

The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi attended the Valedictory Function of Vigilance Awareness Week 2016, here today. Speaking on the occasion, he said technology has a major role to play in bringing in transparency, and curbing corruption.
The Prime Minister said that the State has to be policy driven. He said things cannot depend on the whims and fancies of individuals. The Prime Minister said that while making laws and policies it is essential to have a broad range of inputs.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Vigilance Commissioner Shri KV Chowdary said the time has come to address the supply side of corruption and that he has advised the private sector to adopt an ethics code to address the problem. He said the CVC has undertaken a study to formulate a Corruption Index of 25 Public Sector Undertakings.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vigilance Commissioner Shri Rajiv said during the last year the CVC has disposed off 61% cases in the stipulated 90 days. The Vigilance Commissioner Dr. TM Bhasin also spoke on the occasion.
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, Cabinet Secretary Shri PK Sinha and Additional Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Dr. PK Mishra were also present on the occasion.
Earlier during the day the National Seminar on the occasion of the Vigilance Awareness Week-2016 was held. Former CAG, Shri Vinod Rai, Editor-in-Chief, The Print, Shri Shekhar Gupta, President, ASSOCHAM, Shri Sunil Kanoria and Shri Rajiv Kumar, Senior Fellow, Centre for Policy Research participated in the First Session on “Public Participation in Promoting Integrity and Eradicating Corruption”, moderated by former CVC Shri Pratyush Sinha.


The 2nd Session on “Public Procurement” was moderated by former CVC Shri Pradeep Kumar and the panel included the Union Finance Secretary Shri Ashok Lavasa, DG, DGS&D Shri Binoy Kumar, Mr. Augustine Peter, Member, CCI, Shri Sutirtha Bhattacharya, CMD, Coal India Ltd. and Shri Kiran Karnik, former President, NASSCOM.
