Union Home Minister and Governor of Punjab and UT of Chandigarh to inaugurate Regional Editors’ Conference for North and North Eastern States in Chandigarh

Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh and Governor of Punjab and UT of Chandigarh will inaugurate a two-day long Regional Editors’ Conference for North and North Eastern States that is being organized by Press Information Bureau in Chandigarh on Monday.
Around 100 senior media persons from Northern States of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and Union Territory of Chandigarh and North Eastern States of Assam, Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram are expected to participate in the Conference.
Union Ministers from Ministry of Home Affairs, Women & Child Development, Road Transport & Highways, Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Development for North East region will address the conference and interact with the senior editors from the regional press. Significant policy initiatives of the Central government relating to these Ministries will be the focus of discussions during the six sessions of the Conference.
The main purpose of the Conference is to enable the senior representatives of Regional Media to acquire a deeper perspective and context with regard to key initiatives, policies, programmes and achievements of the different Union Ministries. The occasion will also provide the Editors an opportunity to interact with the Union Ministers and seek clarifications on these issues.
This is the third Regional Editors’ Conference being organized by Press Information Bureau during this calendar year. The earlier Regional Editors’ Conferences this year were held in Jaipur and Chennai. Press Information Bureau also reaches out to the regional media through its regional and branch offices and through special initiatives like press tours and ‘Vartalap’ or Rural Media Workshop at District level.
