The Ministry of Tourism is exploring possibility of obtaining statutory status for the National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology and the Indian Institute of Travel and Tourism for awarding degrees in the field of Hospitality and Tourism education, respectively.
The skill development programmes of the Ministry of Tourism are implemented through the Institutes of Hotel management and other identified institutions under the Scheme “Capacity Building for Service Providers”.
Development of tourism is primarily the responsibility of the State Governments and Union Territory Administrations. The Ministry of Tourism provides Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for tourism infrastructure projects as per the relevant scheme guidelines subject to availability of funds and receipt of due utilization certificates.
This information was given by Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Civil Aviation Dr. Mahesh Sharma in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
