Shri Piyush Goyal Felicitated CPSUs Officers for Commendable Work done under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy felicitated the CPSUs under his Ministries for their commendable work done under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan for construction of Toilets in Schools throughout the country within the given timeframe here late evening yesterday. The performance of these officers in stipulated timeframe was exceeded by nearly 28%. The officers of the concerned CPSUs and Ministries were honoured with an award and a certificate of appreciation. Shri Goyal also unveiled the Swachh Vidyalaya films of CPSUs.

          While speaking on the occasion, Shri Goyal complimented all officers for their humble contribution towards the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision . He hoped that this endeavor is beginning of a larger journey embarked upon by all of us. Shri Goyal further said that the programme shall be scaled up and collectively work for making a difference. Despite huge level of meticulous planning involved in execution of such large targets of construction of toilets , Shri Goyal said it didn’t hamper any productivity of coal companies .

          The ministry was committed to construct a total of 1 Lac Toilets in Government Schools within one year. The programme was launched countrywide on 2^nd October 2014 by the participating CPSUs namely NTPC, REC, PGCIL, PFC, NHPC, SJVNL, THDC, NEEPCO, CIL, NLC and IREDA. The program was monitored at the highest level in the Ministry on a daily basis. Uploading of information was done by using latest technology on a specially designed web portal.   

          The initiative was taken up by the participating CPSUs as an expansion of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s commitment for the construction of separate toilet for girls and boys in all schools within one year throughout the country under ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, in his speech on 15^th August 2015. The relentless and tireless efforts of the officials of Ministries and the PSUs together led to successful and timely completion of construction of more than 1.28 lakh nos. of toilets in schools across the country in a short span of one year, surpassing the commitment of 1 lakh nos. given by the Shri Piyush Goyal.
