Inter Ministerial Committee on Prices meets

The Fifth Meeting of the Inter Ministerial Committee on Prices and Availability of essential food items was held yesterday here. The Committee reviewed the current prices and availability position of pulses and onions as well as the status regarding arrival and disposal of imported pulses and onion. The Committee observed that wholesale prices of onions have moderated is has shown a decline over the fortnight in major Mandis. The first tranche of 250 MT of imported onion has already arrived at JNPT, Mumbai and by the end of the week the entire quantity of 2000MT of onion would arrive. 

As regards pulses, 3223 MT has already arrived at both Mumbai and Chennai and by 20th October 2015 the entire quantity of 5000MT would arrive. These consignments are being allocated to States as per their request. This should help cool down the prices. It was also decided to import 2000MT of Tur dal to improve availability of pulses and moderate prices.
