Railway Protection Force came into existence as statutory Force on 29th August, 1957 for the better protection and security of the railway property. RPF is celebrated its Raising Day Week starting from 29th August up to 4thSeptember. This Force was empowered to enquire and prosecute the criminals, vide RP (UP) Act in the year 1966. Later, the Force was given additional responsibility of protection and security of passengers and passenger area. Since then, the Force is consistently working to give its best in-achieving the objectives and has excelled in various fields such as protection of passenger and railway property, arrest made in passenger offences, recovery of contraband goods, in service of humanity, recovery of Arms & Ammunition etc. other works.
A few recent achievements of RPF over Indian Railways are as under:-
1. IN SERVICE OF HUMANITY:-
(i) On 21.05.2015, RPF staff Bhiwandi Road Railway station, Central Railway recovered a bag containing some eatables and gold ornaments, worth Rs. 2, 46,220/- (approx). The luggage was handed over to the passenger namely Ratnakar S. Shetty in presence of Dy. SS/BIRD after completing all formalities.
(ii) On 13.05.2015, SI /Ashu Sharma along with RPF staff Akola Rly. Station, Central Railway, apprehended one outsider and recovered a mangalsutra, which was snatched of a lady passenger namely Dhanlaxmi. The same was handed over to the victim passenger.
2. RECOVERY OF CONTRABAND GOODS:-
On 29.05.2015, RPF staff detected 04 bags containing 62 kgs Ganja as unclaimed in T.No. 12235 DN Rajdhani at Coochbehar Railway station. Value of recovered Ganja is Rs. 70,000/-(approx).
3. RECOVERY OF ARMS & AMMUNITION:-
(i) On 20.04.2015, RPF staff Rangiya apprehended one person namely Krishan Singh with recovery of 22 nos. 38 & 31 nos. .303 live ammunitions from his possession. The arrested person along with recovered ammunition was handed over to OC/GRP/Rangiya who registered a case vide No. 16/2015 u/s 25 Arms Act dated 21.04.2015.
(ii) On 02.04.2015, SI/RPF along with RPF staff Etawa apprehended two outsiders namely Shivnarayan & Pardeep and seized 20 kgs. Ganja and one Country made Pistol .315 bore + 2 live rounds from their possession. A case no. 20/15 u/s 08/20 NDPC Act and case no. 21/15 u/s 25 Arms was registered against both the accused.
Miscellaneous:-
1. On 20.04.2015, Sri Jayant Goindani S/o Shri Mahesh Kumar came to RPF/Post/SBC along with his father (Advisor/Traffic/RB) and reported that he has lost his Azus Google Nexus 7 Tablet, valued Rs. 50,000/-in T.No. 22692 Rajdhani. Immediately, SI/RPF/SBC and staff checked the coach and found the gadget in one of the folded bed sheet and blanket. The gadget was handed over to the party through ADRM/SBC in presence of Sr. DSC/SBC. ADRM/SBC highly appreciated the good work done by the RPF staff and ordered for cash award to the staff concerned.
2. On 22.5.2015, on duty RPF staff attended & checked train no. 22874 Up at Digha Railway station and noticed one trolley bag lying in coach No. S-2. The matter was informed to all concerned. After proper checking, found some personal belongings, wearing apparels, gold ornaments, valued Rs. 70,000/-kept in a bag. In this connection, a joint inventory was made at the spot. On being contacted, the owner of the bag attended at RPF Post/Digha and after observing all formalities, the bag with all the articles was handed over to the owner correctly.
3. On 21.05.2015, on receipt of information from the office of Dy. CVO(G)/SER/GRC regarding suspicious movement of two outsiders with cash on the Ist floor corridor of GM office building, officers & staff of RPF Post/GRC attended the spot and detained two outsiders at GM office/SER/GRC. On enquiry, they confessed that they attended GM office/SER on 21.5.15. at about 12.45 hrs to meet one person namely Anup Adhikari, an employee of Railway Recruitment Cell/SER/GRC to pay him Rs. 4,25,000/- in cash for employment of few candidate namely Murshid Alam, Tafjul Hague & Amirul Saikh in Group ‘D’ category of Railway. On checking, 02 Nos. of bags containing Rs. 4, 25,000/- in cash, forged documents e.g. appointment letters, school certificates, affidavit, mark sheet of candidates etc. were found. Both the outsiders with seized documents were handed over to LPS/West Port Police station/ Kolkata/GRC for legal action where a case No. 122/15 dated 21.5.15 u/s 120(b)/420/467/468/471 was registered. The case is under investigation.
4. On 01.06.2015, ASI/RPF/Hubli received information from keshwapur Police Crime staff regarding 04 cheaters who cheated a person by name Pankaj of Hubli and looted gold ornaments, valued of Rs. 4,50,000/-(approx). On getting information, Hubli Post crime staff found the location on hints given by local police with the help of informants. Immediately RPF/Hubli contacted ASI/RPF Londa and informed that the cheaters were travelling by train No. 11006 Ex: PDY-DR Express from Hubli towards Miraj and were wearing swamy dress etc. At Londa, ASIPF/LD with staff, GRP staff and Local police attended rear general compartment of Train no. 11006 and apprehended the suspected persons. They admitted having cheated and stolen the gold ornaments i.e. 08 nos. of Bangles, 01 no. Mangal Sutra & 01 gold Ring, Total Valued Rs. 4, 50,000/-. The said 04 persons with Gold ornaments were handed over to PS/Keshwapur Hubli for further needful action under acknowledgment.
5. An incident of attempt to Robbery took place in S-5 coach of Train No. 11402 Nandigram Express on 27.04.2015, while it was on run between Parbhani and Manva Road Railway stations. Sri. S.W. Gawal, HC/PAU who was on train escorting duty noticed one person threatening one lady passenger by name Smt. Hafima W/o S.K.Mohd, on the point of one razor blade. Immediately, he apprehended the culprit and alerted the other train escorting staff. On enquiry with the victim passenger, she stated that the accused and other 03 associates had tried to rob her gold ornaments on point of razor blade, but on seeing RPF escorting staff, the associates had escaped. Further, on duty RPF escort staff obtained FIR from the above lady passenger and handed over the accused person to GRP/NED who in turn registered a case in Cr. No. 77/2015 u/s 393, 34 IPC dated 28.04.2015 and took up further investigation.
