The draft Drug Demand Reduction Policy prepared by the Ministry envisages support for de-addiction centre in each district of the country or as per prevalence of addiction and the need therein and inter-alia, facilitating availability of treatment facilities in juvenile homes and prisons.
The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment implements a “Central Sector Scheme of Assistance for Prevention of Alcoholism and Substance (Drug) Abuse” under which financial assistance is provided to eligible Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI), Urban Local Bodies etc for running Integrated Rehabilitation Centres of Addicts (IRCAs) to provide composite/integrated services for the rehabilitation of addicts.
