Union Government provides massive relief in flood affected J&K

Rescue operations regularly coordinated by NCMC

The Central Government is providing massive relief and coordinating timely rescue operations in the flood affected State of J&K. The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) chaired by the Cabinet Secretary Shri Ajit Seth met every day for the last two weeks to take detailed and meticulous stock of the day-to-day situation in the flood affected State. Reviewing the situation with the State Government Authorities every day, the Cabinet Secretary directed the concerned Central Ministries and Departments to provide immediate and necessary assistance to flood affected people and the areas. The situation as on today is as below: • The Telecommunication and road connectivity, fuel and power supply in the flood-affected areas have been mostly restored. • In the banking sector, 352 branches of public sector banks are functioning out of 441 branches in the State and 1,190 ATMs are function out of 1,956 ATMs in the State. • About 2,78,000 persons have been rescued in flood-affected state of J&K by different central agencies including about 2,00,000 persons by the Defence Forces, about 51,000 persons by NDRF and about 27,000 persons by CRPF to safer places. • About 80,000 stranded passengers have been airlifted including over 28,000 from Srinagar and about 52,000 from various locations in the state by different airlines including Indian Air Force. • About 400 truck/tripper loads of relief material including food packets, baby food, water and medicines have been sent to different affected areas. Relief camps are being organised at different places and provision of food and shelter are being made. • About 2,000 tents and 80,000 blankets have been provided by different agencies. About 400 tons of rice and 68 tons of skimmed milk powder have been moved in the state to the affected people. • About 12.47 lakh litres of drinking water has been moved to various places by different modes of transportation. The state government has also been provided 20 water purification plants with a total capacity of purifying around 6 lakh litres per day. • Army has deployed 106 medical teams for providing medical aid in addition to one Base hospital and four Field hospitals in the affected areas. • The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has provided Antibiotic tablets – 1,50,000, Antipyretic – 65,800 bottles, Anti acidity-72,000 injection, 1 lakh anti vomiting tablets. About 76 tonnes of specified drug have been sent. About 34 metric tons of medical supplies including 10 lakh chlorine tablets, 50,000 ORS packets, IV fluid, Paracetamol syrup, anti emetic and anti-spasmodic have been airlifted to Srinagar. The Centre has also arranged 500 kg of Malathion Disinfectants, 50,000 doses of Measles vaccine and 25 metric tons of bleaching powder. • Two Central Public Health Teams have been posted, one each in Jammu & Kashmir since September 8, 2014 for rapid health assessment and to prevent/ control public health exigencies. A 29 member clinical team comprising Physicians, Paediatricians and Gynaecologists have been positioned in Srinagar to provide medical relief to the affected population. Courtesy: pib.nic.in
