The Union Minister of state for Information & Broadcasting Shri Prakash Javadekar said that the Narendra Modi government has pledged to let the poor get a chance to live with dignity and there is nothing except public interest on the Modi government’s agenda. Speaking at the special function to launch the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana at Pune this evening (28.08.3.2014) Javadekar said our commitment is to the people which is demonstrated through the launch of the scheme. Elaborating the special features of the scheme he said it has a zero balance facility,an ATM Card for withdrawal, and a never before provision of Rs 1 lakh personal accident insurance for the account holder. Even a Rs 5000 overdraft will be available if some transactions are done on it. He said this will benefit the farmers,farm labourers and other poor downtrodden people. Javadekar said 40 percent people are left outside the ambit of the banking system and this will change the situation. Javadekar remarked that 1 crore accounts have been opened as targeted under the scheme.
Elaborating on the work done by the Environment & Forests Ministry in 3 months time he said pending projects for environment clearance have all been cleared and there is no pendency on that account. Javadekar said he has firmly resolved that Pune city’s Mula-Mutha rivers would not be allowed to become polluted. At alandi he said real time monitors would be set up so that pollution in the river is controlled. Clarifying on the policies the Minister said good projects would not have any tax and would be cleared whereas those that are not in the interest of the city and people would not be cleared no matter how much tax is paid. Javadekar said the Cement production pollution benchmarks would reduce pollution. MPs Anil Shirole, Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil, Chairman of Bank of Maharashtra Mrs Meena Hemchandra were present at the function. Shri Adhalrao Patil said the banks should take the help of MPs in completing the targets under the scheme. The Bank of Maharashtra MD Shri RK Gupta said that the bank is launching the scheme in 8 locations in the state including Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Satara and other places and 7000 camps have been set up in these places in the past few days and the target of 3 lakh accounts has been completed. Five representative families were given the accounts kit under the scheme at the hands of Shri Javadekar at the function. Large number of bachat gats, citizens were present at the function. |
