Availability of dependable emergency patient transportation services is important for saving lives and better utilization of health care services.
Under National Health Mission (NHM), financial support is being provided to the States/UTs for procurement and operation of basic and advanced ambulance services. There are 15673 ambulances and 4416 empanelled patient transportation vehicles supported under NHM.
Details of funds allocated under the NHM for referral transport during the year 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 is given below:
