A total number of 13521special trains run by Railways to clear extra summer rush during April 2014 to June 2014. Indian Railways run special trains during peak seasons, festivals, special events for clearance extra rush of passengers keeping in view the pattern of traffic, operational feasibility and availability of resources. This is an ongoing process on Indian Railways. Basic amenities are provided in the coaches running in special trains as per the prescribed norms. Besides, healthy level of cleanliness and hygiene in coaches and coach toilets and adequate watering in these trains are also ensured.
Catering services are provided in trains through pantry car where pantry car is attached and trains in which pantry cars are not provided, catering services are provided through Train Side Vending (TSV) in trains and/or by supply of meals through static catering units at en-route stations.
Railways continuously monitor the punctuality of passenger trains including special trains, right from the time they commence their journey till they terminate, at the Divisional, Zonal and Board level; it also assesses the extent of delay and takes effective remedial steps, both short and long term to control the factors which impede the running of trains.
