The Union Minister of Environment, Prakash Javadekar was given presentations of environmental related issues by the Government of Maharashtra in Mumbai today. The high level meeting was attended by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Prithviraj Chavan, Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, Forest Minister Patangrao Kadam, Co-operation Minister Harshavardhan Patil and high officials of the government.
After the presentations, the Environment Minister said the Centre will examine the issues of environment relating to public interest in Maharashtra with due diligence and said his government was committed to environment and development, both.
Earlier a delegation of leaders led by the leader of opposition in the legislative council, Vinod Tawde met the minister and appraised him about environmental issues relating to Konkan and Mumbai. The Minister assured the delegation that environmental issues related to Sahyadris actually covered the whole of Western Ghats and his ministry would take a decision on the issue of Ecologically Sensitive areas after taking all the stake holders on board in all the states involved.
