Focus on North-East Cinema at 44TH IFFI in Goa

To fathom the abyss of a culture specific to North-East states, the 44th International Film Festival of India will put a focus on North-East cinema. The segment will carry a package of 19 films exploring the immense ethnic, traditional and cultural diversity as well as unity in the states of North-East. This section will open with a Mizo film entitled ‘Khwalung Run’ by Mapuia Chawngthu while ‘Aideu’, an Assamese film by Arup Manna, based on the life of Aideu Handique, the first Assamese female actor, will close the section.

The screening of the films will be accompanied with dance and music shows, exhibition of fabric, handicrafts and cuisine along with panel discussions on emerging trends in film-making in the North-East. The presence of such luminaries from the zone as Aribam Shyam Sharma, Jahnu Barua, Seema Biswas and Adil Hussain will mark the occasion.

The North-East focus is a specially curated section by Utpal Borpujari, an award-winning film critic and film-maker.
