V. Narayansamy and Manish Tewari Launch Documentary Films on Good Governance Initiatives

Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Shri V. Narayanasamy and the Minister of Information & Broadcasting Shri Manish Tewari, jointly launched documentary films on seven good governance initiatives produced by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) and the Department of Pensions and Pensioners’ Welfare (DPPW) here today .

Speaking on the occasion Shri V.Narayanasamy said that these initiatives highlight the innovative efforts of the Civil Servants who have been instrumental in ensuring that the policies and programmes of the Government reach the beneficiaries. He stated that the initiatives are testimony to the perseverance of the champions for displaying excellence in administration, innovation, within the broad framework of government functioning and by assuming leadership roles to manage change. He said it is necessary to make efforts to replicate the initiatives elsewhere so that the successful initiatives do not remain confined as islands of excellence. Shri Narayanasamy exhorted that these initiatives are to be suitably documented and disseminated through all possible channels of communication to enable their adaption, replication and further innovation, for the betterment of the common man. The Minister further said that the Government has decided to do away with the requirement of filling up of Form 14 for commencement of family pension on the death of pensioner, where the pensioner holds a joint account with the spouse. A simple letter to the bank enclosing the death certificate is all that is required. This simplification will specially benefit women who are widowed at an advanced age.

He said so far, sixty-one documentary films have been produced including the films being released on the occasion. Most of the initiatives were conferred the Prime Minister’s awards for excellence in public administration or National e-Governance awards.

The seven films on the initiatives from different parts of the country in various sectors are (i) e-Sugam, a Self Policing system for Tax compliance, Karnataka; (ii)Pensioners, Portal, Government of India, (iii) Electronic Service Level Agreement, Government of Delhi, (iv) Health management Information Systems, Tamil Nadu, (v) Crop Pest Surveillance and Advisory Project, Maharashtra, (vi) Aarogyam, Uttar Pradesh, and (vii) Integrated Odisha Treasury Management System, Odisha. The initiatives demonstrate as to how information and Communication Technologies can be leveraged to simplify the processes and procedures and deliver various government services to larger population.
