2433 Buses Sanctioned in the Second Meeting of CSMC

Ministry trying to replicate metro experience on the bus 

Aiming to improve the urban transportation system in the country, the Ministry of Urban Development is now holding the second round of approvals for sanctioning buses to states under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM). Nearly 2433 number of buses were sanctioned for cities in seven states in the second meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC), constituted for the purpose in Delhi. In the meeting held yesterday, the number of sanctioned for Jaipur, Naya Raipur, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Maharashtra stood at 286,50,50,73,400, 910 respectively. 

The Secretary Ministry of Urban Development, Dr. Sudhir Krishna while chairing the meeting said that the bus system is the most popular among the mass rapid transit system as it helps people to take advantage of employment opportunities by helping them to gain access to inaccessible areas. He further stressed the need to operate these buses sanctioned under JnNURM in a sustainable environment and to make the bus system sustainable, the current round also includes providing funds for support infrastructure like bus depots. He also added that the Ministry is trying to replicate metro experience on the bus and in this regard it is uplifting the brand image of Public Transport by bus. 

These city buses will have state-of-the art facilities like intelligent transport systems (ITS) including features like LED display for stops, CCTV cameras, GPRS, passenger information system, vehicle tracking system, automatic fare collection system etc.
