The Government is making special efforts to tackle the menace of sexual crimes against women by issuing instructions for provision of special city buses for women. Ministry of Urban Development issued an advisory in February this year to all the States/UTs to examine provision of special city buses for women in all million plus population cities.
As per available information, the following STUs are already operating special buses for women:
(i) Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC),
(ii) Chandigarh Transport Undertaking,
(iii) Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation,
(iv) Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML) and
(i) The Brihan Mumbai Electric Supply & Transport Undertaking (BEST)
