Power Minister chairs Consultative Committee for Ministry of Power

     The meeting of the Consultative Committee of Members of parliament for the Ministry of Power was held yesterday where Minister of State (I/C) for Power, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia apprised the members of the significant contribution made by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) towards development of Indian power sector by undertaking coordinated development of power transmission network along with effective and transparent operation of regional grids and through continuous innovation of in technical and managerial fields. 

The minister said that POWERGRID has taken a lead initiative and developed a comprehensive master plan which has been released by his ministry and Ministry of Non-Conventional and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for integration of renewable coming up country-wide in XII plan into the grid through Green Energy Corridors at an estimated cost of about 43,000crore. 

POWERGRID which has been instrumental in providing an efficient, reliable and smooth grid operation and management in the country as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative undertakes various community development schemes through provision of facilities like health, education, drinking water besides infrastructure like roads, community centres etc. 

Highlighting the various achievements of POWERGRID, Scindia said that during the financial year 2011-12, availability of 99.94% was achieved fir the transmission system, highest ever in the history of the Company. He further added, that the southern grid will be integrated to the National Grid by January 2014. Once this integration takes place, the entire country will be seamlessly integrated by one grid, and at the same frequency. The national grid currently has five components-northern, southern, eastern, western and north-eastern.
