Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana (MKSP) was announced in the budget of 2010-11 as a sub – component of the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) to meet the specific needs of women farmers. Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, the Minister of State for Rural Development Shri Pradeep Jain said the aim of the programme is also to achieve socio-economic and technical empowerment of the rural women farmers, predominantly small and marginal farmers. The Ministry of Rural Development has released Rs. 94.8575 crore as Ist installment of Central share under MKSP till date. While Andhra Pradesh was given over Rs 47 crore, Bihar was granted about Rs 20 crore. Kerala was released Rs 16 and half crore, Madhya Pradesh Rs 6.195 crore, Karnataka Rs 1.1725 crore, Maharashtra Rs 1.0925 crore and West Bengal Rs 2.5325 crore.
