Beautification of Historical Sites

The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture & Tourism Shri Shripad Yesso Naik has said that Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is in charge of protection and maintenance of 3680 centrally protected monuments/sites which have been declared so under the provisions of Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958 in the country.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today Shri Naik said, in the State of Maharashtra, 285 monuments/sites are declared as monument/site of national importance. The conservation, preservation and environmental development of these protected monuments is an ongoing process which is undertaken by the Archaeological Survey of India as per archaeological norms. ASI is also providing tourist related amenities (e.g. drinking water, toilet blocks, facilities for physically challenged, pathways, cultural notice boards/signage, vehicle parking, etc.) at the centrally protected monuments/sites as per need and availability of resources.

The ancient cave and temple of tribal God ‘Lingojango’ located in Chimur parliamentary constituency of Maharashtra is not a centrally protected monument and no such proposal is pending with ASI for its protection/beautification by the ASI, the Minister added.
