Excerpts of PM Shri Narendra Modi's address at HT Leadership Summit - 2017

शोभना भारतिया जी,

उपस्थित सभी महानुभाव,

भाइयों और बहनों,

मुझे फिर एक बार आप लोगों के बीच आने का मौका मिला है। बहुत से जाने-पहचाने चेहरे भी दिख रहे हैं। हिंदुस्तान टाइम्स ग्रुप और उसके पाठकों का बहुत-बहुत आभार मुझे फिर से बुलाने के लिए।

साथियों, दो साल पहले जब मैं इस समिट में आया था, तो विषय था- “Towards a Brighter India”, सिर्फ दो साल, सिर्फ दो साल में, हम आज “The Irreversible Rise of India” पर बात कर रहे हैं। ये सिर्फ विषय का बदलाव नहीं है। ये देश की सोच में आए बदलाव, देश के आत्मविश्वास में आए बदलाव का प्रतीक है।

अगर हम देश को एक संपूर्णता में देखें, एक Living Entity की तरह देखें, तो आज जो Positive Attitude हमारे देश में आया है, वो पहले कभी नहीं था। मुझे नहीं याद पड़ता, देश के गरीबों ने, नौजवानों ने, महिलाओं ने, किसानों ने, शोषितों-वंचितों ने अपने सामर्थ्य, अपने संसाधन, अपने सपनों पर इतना भरोसा, पहले कभी किया था।

ये भरोसा अब आया है। हम सब सवा सौ करोड़ भारतीयों ने मिलकर इसके लिए दिन-रात एक किया है। देशवासियों का अपने आप पर भरोसा, देश पर भरोसा…. किसी भी देश को ऊँचाइयों पर ले जाने का यही मंत्र है।

आज गीता जयंती है, गीता में बड़ी स्पष्टता से कहा है –

उद्धरेत आत्मन आत्मानम न आत्मानं अवसादयेत आत्मेव-आत्मनो बंधु आत्मेव रिपुर आत्मना 

स्वयं को ऊपर उठाओ नकारात्मक विचार को टालो
आप ही स्वयं के मित्र हो और आप ही स्वयं के शत्रु

और इसीलिये भगवान बुद्ध ने भी कहा था -

‘अप्प दीपो भव’अर्थात अपना प्रकाश स्वयं बनो।

सवा सौ करोड़ देशवासियों का बढ़ता भरोसा, इस देश के विकास की एक मज़बूत नीव बन रही है। इस हॉल में बैठे हर एक व्यक्ति से लेकर इस होटल के बाहर जो व्यक्ति ऑटो चला रहा है,

कहीं रिक्शा खींच रहा है, कहीं खेत में टूटे हुए किनारे को ठीक कर रहा है, कहीं बर्फ में रातभर पहरा देने के बाद अब किसी टेंट में सो रहा है, उसने अपने हिस्से की तपस्या की है। ऐसे हर भारतीय की तपस्या ही है जिसकी वजह से हम “Towards a Brighter India”, से आगे बढ़कर Irreversible Rise of India पर बात कर रहे हैं।

साथियों, 2014 में देश के लोगों ने सिर्फ सरकार बदलने के लिए वोट नहीं दिया था। 2014 में वोट दिया गया था देश बदलने के लिए। सिस्टम में ऐसे बदलाव लाने के लिए, जो स्थाई हों, परमानेंट हों, Irreversible हों। स्वतंत्रता के इतने वर्षों बाद भी हमारे सिस्टम की कमजोरी, हमारे देश की सफलता में आड़े आ रही थी।

ये एक ऐसा सिस्टम था, जो देश की क्षमताओं के साथ न्याय नहीं कर पा रहा था। हर तरफ देश में किसी ना किसी व्यक्ति को इस सिस्टम से लड़ना पड़ रहा था। ये मेरा प्रयास ही नहीं, कमिटमेंट भी है कि लोगों की सिस्टम से ये लड़ाई बंद हो, उनकी जिंदगी में Irreversible Change आए, Ease of Living बढ़े।

छोटी-छोटी चीजों के लिए, रेल-बस का टिकट कराने के लिए, गैस के कनेक्शन के लिए, बिजली के कनेक्शन के लिए, अस्पताल में भर्ती होने के लिए, पासपोर्ट पाने के लिए, इनकम टैक्स रीफंड पाने के लिए उन्हें परेशान ना होना पड़े।

साथियों, इस सरकार के लिए Corruption Free, Citizen-Centric और Development Friendly Eco-system सबसे बड़ी प्राथमिकता है। नीतियों पर आधारित, तकनीक पर आधारित, पारदर्शिता पर आधारित एक ऐसा Eco-system जिसमें गड़बड़ी होने की, लीकेज की, गुंजाइश कम से कम हो।

अगर मैं जनधन योजना की ही बात करूं, तो ये गरीबों की जिंदगी में ऐसा बदलाव लाई है, जो पहले कोई सोच भी नहीं सकता था। जिस गरीब को पहले बैंक के दरवाजे से दुत्कार कर भगा दिया जाता था, उसके पास अपना बैंक अकाउंट है। जिनके जनधन अकाउंट खुल रहे हैं, उन्हें Rupay Debit Card भी दिए जा रहे हैं। सवा सौ करोड़ लोगों के हमारे देश में ऐसे लोगों की संख्या 30 करोड़ से ज्यादा है।

उस गरीब के आत्म-विश्वास के बारे में सोचिए, जब वो बैंक में जाकर पैसे जमा कराता है, जब वो Rupay Debit कार्ड का इस्तेमाल करता है। ये आत्म-विश्वास, ये हौसला, अब परमानेंट है, उसे कोई बदल नहीं सकता।

ऐसे ही उज्जवला योजना है। गांव में रहने वाली तीन करोड़ से ज्यादा महिलाओं की जिंदगी इस योजना ने हमेशा-हमेशा के लिए बदल दी है। उन्हें सिर्फ मुफ्त गैस कनेक्शन नहीं मिला, उन्हें सुरक्षा मिली है, सेहत मिली है, परिवार के लिए समय मिला है।

ऐसी करोड़ों महिलाओं की जिंदगी में आए बदलाव के बारे में भी सोचिए, जो बदलाव स्वच्छ भारत मिशन की वजह से आया है। सरकार ने सिर्फ शौचालय नहीं बनाए हैं, बल्कि उनकी करोड़ों महिलाओं को, बेटियों को उस पीड़ा से मुक्ति दिलाई है, जिसे वो शाम के इंतजार में बर्दाश्त करती रहती थीं।

कुछ लोग थोड़ी सी गंदगी की फोटो खींचकर बहस करते रहेंगे, लिखते रहेंगे, टीवी पर दिखाते रहेंगे, लेकिन लोगों को पता है कि इस अभियान ने जमीन पर किस तरह का Irreversible बदलाव ला दिया है।

भाइयों और बहनों, मुझे नहीं मालूम कि इस हॉल में बैठे कितने व्यक्ति इससे Relate कर पाएंगे, लेकिन जितना आप यहां से जाने के बाद पार्किंग टिप के तौर पर देंगे, उससे बहुत कम में आज गरीब की जिंदगी का बीमा हो जाता है।

सोचिए, सिर्फ एक रुपए महीना पर दुर्घटना बीमा, और 90 पैसे प्रतिदिन के प्रीमियम पर जीवन बीमा। आज देश के 15 करोड़ से ज्यादा गरीब सरकार की इन योजनाओं से जुड़ चुके हैं। इन योजनाओं के तहत गरीबों को लगभग 1800 करोड़ रुपए की claim राशि दी जा चुकी है। इतने रुपए किसी और सरकार ने दिए होते तो उसे मसीहा बनाकर प्रस्तुत कर दिया गया होता।

लेकिन गरीबों के लिए इतना बड़ा काम हुआ, मुझे नहीं लगता इस पर किसी ने ध्यान दिया होगा। ये भी एक सच है जिसे मैं स्वीकार करके चलता हूं। एक और उदाहरण LED बल्ब का है। पहले की सरकार में जो LED बल्ब तीन सौ-साढ़े तीन सौ का बिकता था, वो अब एक मध्यम वर्ग के परिवार को लगभग 50 रुपए में उपलब्ध है। उजाला योजना शुरू होने के बाद से देश में अब तक लगभग 28 करोड़ LED बल्ब बिक चुके हैं। इन बल्बों से लोगों को 14 हजार करोड़ रुपए से ज्यादा की अनुमानित बचत हो चुकी है।

ऐसा भी नहीं है कि बचत पर, बिजली बिल कम होने पर कुछ समय में फुल स्टॉप लग जाएगा। जो बचत हो रही है, वो होती ही रहेगी। ये बचत भी अब परमानेंट है।

भाइयों और बहनों, पहले ही सरकारों को ऐसा करने से किसी ने रोक रखा था या नहीं, ये मैं नहीं जानता। लेकिन इतना जानता हूं कि सिस्टम में स्थाई परिवर्तन लाने फैसले लेने से, देशहित में फैसला लेने से, किसी के रोके नहीं रुकेंगे।

जो लोग इस बात पर यकीन करते हैं कि देश जादू की छड़ी घुमाकर नहीं बदला जा सकता, वो हताशा और निराशा से भरे हुए हैं। ये अप्रोच हमें कुछ भी नया करने से, innovative करने से रोकती है।

ये अप्रोच हमें फैसला लेने से रोकती है। इसलिए इस सरकार की अप्रोच इससे बिल्कुल अलग है। जैसे यूरिया की नीम कोटिंग की ही बात करें। पहले की सरकार में यूरिया की 35 प्रतिशत नीम कोटिंग होती थी। जबकि पूरे सिस्टम को पता था कि 35 प्रतिशत नीम कोटिंग करेंगे तो कोई फायदा नहीं होगा। यूरिया का डायवर्जन रोकना है, फैक्ट्रियों में जाने से रोकना है, तो उसकी सौ प्रतिशत नीम कोटिंग करनी ही होगी। लेकिन ये फैसला पहले नहीं हुआ। इस सरकार ने फैसला लिया यूरिया की पूरी तरह नीम कोटिंग का।

भाइयों और बहनों, इस फैसले से ना सिर्फ यूरिया का डायवर्जन रुका है, बल्कि उसकी अपनी efficiency बढ़ गई है। अब किसान को उतनी ही जमीन के लिए कम यूरिया डालना पड़ता है। इतना ही नहीं, कम यूरिया डालने के बावजूद उसकी पैदावार बढ़ रही है।

ऐसे ही, अब हम देश में एक डिजिटल प्लेटफॉर्म तैयार कर रहे हैं जिस पर आकर किसी भी जगह का किसान कहीं से भी अपनी फसल बेच सके। ये देश में बहुत बड़ा व्यवस्था परिवर्तन होने जा रहा है। e-Nam यानि इलेक्ट्रॉनिक नेशनल एग्रीकल्चर मार्केट से अब तक देश की साढ़े चार सौ से ज्यादा मंडियों को ऑनलाइन जोड़ा जा चुका है। भविष्य में ये प्लेटफॉर्म किसानों को उनकी फसल की उचित कीमत दिलाने में बहुत मदद करेगा।

अभी हाल ही में सरकार ने देश के एग्रीकल्चर सेक्टर में supply chain को मजबूत करने के लिए, storage सिस्टम को मजबूत करने के लिए “प्रधानमंत्री किसान संपदा योजना” की शुरुआत की है। इस योजना का मकसद है कि खेत या बाग़ में पैदा होने के बाद जो अनाज या फल मंडी तक पहुंचने से पहले खराब हो जाता है, उसे बचाया जाए। सरकार इस योजना के तहत फूड प्रोसेसिंग सेक्टर को भी मजबूत कर रही है ताकि किसान का खेत एक इंडस्ट्रियल यूनिट की तरह भी काम करें।

फूड पार्क पर, फूड प्रोसेसिंग से जुड़ी आधुनिक तकनीक पर, नए गोदामों पर, एग्रो-प्रोसेसिंग का पूरा इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर तैयार करने पर सरकार 6 हजार करोड़ रुपए से ज्यादा खर्च करने जा रही है।

भाइयों और बहनों, समय के साथ ऑर्गैनिक फॉर्मिंग और ऑर्गैनिक प्रॉडक्ट्स की डिमांड भी लगातार बढ़ रही है। सिक्किम की तरह ही देश के कई और राज्यों में 100 प्रतिशत आर्गेनिक State बनने की क्षमता है। विशेषकर हमारे हिमालयन राज्यों में इसे और बढ़ाया जा सकता है। इसके लिए भी सरकार 10 हजार कलस्टर बनाकर उनमें आर्गेनिक खेती को बढ़ावा देने की योजना पर काम कर रही है।

अभी हाल ही में हमने एक और बड़ा फैसला लिया है। भाइयों और बहनों, अब तक बांस को देश के एक कानून में पेड़ माना जाता था। इस वजह से बांस काटने को लेकर किसानों को बहुत दिक्कत आती थी। अब सरकार ने बांस को पेड़ की लिस्ट से हटा दिया है।

इसका फायदा देश के दूर-दराज इलाके और खासकर उत्तर पूर्व के किसानों को होगा जो Bamboo फर्नीचर, हैंडी-क्राफ्ट के काम में लगे हुए हैं। आपको जानकर हैरानी होगी कि पहले की सरकार द्वारा बनाए गए एक और कानून में बांस को पेड़ नहीं माना गया था।

ये विरोधाभास दस-बारह साल बाद अब दूर किया गया है। साथियों, हमारी सरकार में holistic approach के साथ फैसले लिए जाते हैं। देश की आवश्यकताओं को समझते हुए फैसले लिए जाते हैं। इस तरह के फैसले पहले नहीं लिए जा रहे थे, इसलिए देश का हर व्यक्ति चिंता में था। वो देश को आंतरिक बुराइयों से मुक्त देखने के साथ ही, नई व्यवस्थाओं के निर्माण को भी होते हुए देखना चाहता था।

भाइयों और बहनों, हमारे यहां जो सिस्टम था उसने भ्रष्टाचार को ही शिष्टाचार बना दिया था। कालाधन ही देश के हर बड़े सेक्टर को कंट्रोल कर रहा था। 2014 में देश के सवा सौ करोड़ों ने इस व्यवस्था को बदलने के लिए वोट दिया था। उन्होंने वोट दिया था देश को लगी बीमारियों के परमानेंट इलाज के लिए, उन्होंने वोट दिया था न्यू इंडिया बनाने के लिए।

Demonetization के बाद देश में जिस तरह का behavioural change आया है उसे आप खुद महसूस कर रहे होंगे। स्वतंत्रता के बाद पहली बार ऐसा हुआ है, जब भ्रष्टाचारियों को कालेधन के लेन-देन से पहले डर लग रहा है। उनमें पकड़े जाने का भय आया है। जो कालाधन पहले पैरेलल इकॉनॉमी का आधार था, वो Demonetization के बाद Formal Economy में आया है।

बड़ी बात ये भी है कि बैंकिंग सिस्टम में वापस आया ये पैसा अपने साथ सबूत भी लाया है। देश को जो डेटा मिला है, वो किसी खजाने से कम नहीं है। इसी डेटा की माइनिंग से पता चला है कि हमारे देश में एक ही address पर चार-चार सौ, पाँच-पाँच सौ कंपनियां चल रही थीं और एक-एक कंपनी ने दो-दो हजार बैंक अकाउंट खुलवाए हुए थे। ये अजीब विरोधाभास नहीं था क्या? एक तरफ गरीब को बैंक में एक अकाउंट खुलवाने में दिक्कत आती थी और दूसरी तरफ एक कंपनी आसानी से हजारों अकाउंट खुलवा लेती थी।

नोटबंदी के दौरान इन अकाउंट्स में भी जो हेर-फेर किया गया, वो पकड़ में आ रहा है। अब तक ऐसी लगभग सवा दो लाख कंपनियों को de-register किया जा चुका है। इन कंपनियों में जो डायरेक्टर थे, जिनकी जिम्मेदारी थी कि ये कंपनियां सही तरीके से काम करें, उनकी भी जिम्मेदारी फिक्स की गई है। उनके अब किसी और कंपनी में डायरेक्टर बनने पर रोक लगा दी गई है।

साथियों, ये एक ऐसा कदम है, जो हमारे देश में स्वस्थ और स्वच्छ कॉरपोरेट कल्चर को और मजबूत करेगा। GST लागू होना भी देश की आर्थिक स्वच्छता के लिए महत्वपूर्ण कदम है। 70 वर्ष में जो व्यवस्था बन गई थी, कारोबार करने में जो कमजोरियां थीं, जो मजबूरियां थीं, उन्हें पीछे छोड़कर देश अब आगे बढ़ चला है।

GST से भी देश में Transparency का एक नया अध्याय शुरू हुआ है। ज्यादा से ज्यादा व्यापारी भी इस ईमानदार सिस्टम से जुड़ रहे हैं। साथियों, ऐसे ही एक Irreversible Change को आधार नंबर से मदद मिल रही है। आधार एक ऐसी शक्ति है जिससे ये सरकार गरीबों के अधिकार को सुनिश्चित कराना चाहती है।

सस्ता राशन, स्कॉलरशिप, दवाई का खर्च, पेंशन, सरकार की तरफ से मिलने वाली सब्सिडी, गरीबों तक पहुंचाने में आधार की बड़ी भूमिका है। आधार के साथ मोबाइल और जनधन अकाउंट की ताकत जुड़ जाने से एक ऐसी व्यवस्था का निर्माण हुआ है, जिसके बारे में कुछ साल पहले तक सोचा भी नहीं जा सकता था। एक ऐसी व्यवस्था जो Irreversible है।

पिछले तीन वर्षों में आधार की मदद से करोड़ों फर्जी नाम सिस्टम से हटाए गए हैं। अब तो बेनामी संपत्ति के खिलाफ भी ये एक बड़ा हथियार बनने जा रहा है।

भाइयों और बहनों, इस सरकार में सरकारी खरीद के पुराने तरीके को भी पूरी तरह बदला जा चुका है। हमने एक नई व्यवस्था विकसित की है गवर्नमेंट ई-मार्केट प्लेस GeM के नाम से।

सरकार में अब इसी के जरिए टेंडर दिए जा रहे हैं और सरकारी सामान की खरीद हो रही है। अब कॉटेज इंडस्ट्री वाला भी, छोटे-छोटे हैंडीक्राफ्ट बनाने वाला भी, Home Made सामान बनाने वाला भी GeM के माध्यम से सरकार को अपना सामान बेच सकता है।

भाइयों और बहनों, हम एक ऐसी व्यवस्था की तरफ बढ़ रहे हैं जिसमें कालाधन पैदा करना, सिस्टम की कमजोरी की वजह से भ्रष्टाचार करने की संभावना कम से कम रह जाएगी।

जिस दिन देश में ज्यादातर खरीद-फरोख्त, पैसे के लेन-देन का एक Technical और Digital Address होने लग गया, उस दिन से Organised Corruption काफी हद तक थम जाएगा। मुझे पता है, इसकी मुझे राजनीतिक तौर पर कितनी बड़ी कीमत चुकानी पड़ेगी, लेकिन उसके लिए भी मैं तैयार हूं।

साथियों, जब योजनाओं में गति होती है, तभी देश में प्रगति आती है। कुछ तो परिवर्तन आया होगा जिसकी वजह से सरकार की तमाम योजनाओं की स्पीड बढ़ गई है। साधन वही हैं, संसाधन वहीं हैं, लेकिन सिस्टम में रफ्तार आ गई है। ऐसा इसलिए हुआ है क्योंकि सरकार ब्यूरोक्रेसी में भी एक नई कार्य-संस्कृति डवलप कर रही है। उसे ज्यादा responsive बना रही है।

• आज इसी का नतीजा है कि जहां पिछली सरकार में हर रोज 11 किलोमीटर नेशनल हाईवे बनते थे, अब एक दिन में 22 किलोमीटर से ज्यादा नेशनल हाईवे का निर्माण होता है।

• पिछली सरकार के आखिरी तीन सालों में गांवों में 80 हजार किलोमीटर सड़क बनी थी, हमारी सरकार के तीन सालों में 1 लाख 20 हजार किलोमीटर सड़क बनी है। • पिछली सरकार के आखिरी तीन वर्षों में लगभग 1100 किलोमीटर नई रेल लाइन का निर्माण हुआ था, इस सरकार के तीन वर्षों में ये 2100 किलोमीटर से ज्यादा तक पहुंच गया है।

• पिछली सरकार के आखिरी तीन सालों में 2500 किलोमीटर रेल लाइन का बिजलीकरण हुआ था, इस सरकार के तीन सालों में 4300 किलोमीटर से ज्यादा रेल लाइन का बिजलीकरण हुआ है।

• पिछली सरकार के आखिरी के तीन वर्षों में लगभग 1 लाख 49 हजार करोड़ का capital expenditure किया गया था, इस सरकार के तीन वर्षों में लगभग 2 लाख 64 हजार करोड़ रुपए का capital expenditure किया गया है।

• पिछली सरकार के आखिरी के तीन वर्षों में कुल 12 हजार मेगावॉट की Renewable Energy की नई क्षमता जोड़ी गई थी, इस सरकार के तीन सालों में 22 हजार मेगावॉट से ज्यादा Renewable Energy की नई क्षमता को ग्रिड पावर से जोड़ा गया है।

• पिछली सरकार की तुलना में शिपिंग इंडस्ट्री में विकास की बात करें तो पहले जहां कार्गो हैंडलिंग की ग्रोथ Negative थी, वहीं इस सरकार के तीन सालों में 11 प्रतिशत से ज्यादा की वृद्धि हुई है।

साथियों, अगर बिल्कुल जमीनी स्तर पर जाकर चीजों को ठीक नहीं किया गया होता, तो क्या ये गति आ पाती? सरकार ये फैसले ले पाती? नहीं। बड़े और स्थाई परिवर्तन ऐसे ही नहीं आते उसके लिए पूरे सिस्टम में बदलाव करने पड़ते हैं। जब ये बदलाव होते हैं तभी देश सिर्फ तीन साल में Ease Of Doing Business की रैकिंग में 142 से 100 पर पहुंच जाता है।

भाइयों और बहनों, आप सभी को पता है, 2014 में जब हम आए तो हमें विरासत में क्या मिला था? अर्थव्यवस्था की हालत, गवर्नेंस की हालत, Fiscal Order और बैंकिंग सिस्टम की हालत, सब बिगड़ी हुई थी। आप लोगों को तब कम शब्दों में यही बात कहनी होती थी, Headline में लिखना होता था, तो कहते थे, Policy Paralysis...।

सोचिए, हमारा देश Fragile Five में गिना जाता था। दुनिया के तमाम देश सोचते थे कि अर्थव्यवस्था के संकट से हम तो उबर लेंगे लेकिन ये Fragile Five खुद तो डूबेंगे ही हमें भी ले डूबेंगे।

आज Globally भारत कहां खड़ा है, किस स्थिति में है, आप उससे भली-भांति परिचित हैं। बड़े हों या छोटे, दुनिया के ज्यादातर देश आज भारत के साथ कंधे से कंधा मिलाकर चलना चाहते हैं। अंतरराष्ट्रीय मंच पर भारत अपना प्रभाव लगातार बढ़ा रहा है। अब तो रुकना नहीं है, आगे ही बढ़ते जाना है।

साथियों, जब एक राष्ट्र आत्मविश्वास के साथ खड़ा होता है, तो Irreversible और Reversible मायने नहीं रखता। जब एक राष्ट्र आत्मविश्वास के साथ अपने कदम बढ़ाता है, फैसले लेता है, तो वो होता है, जो पिछले 70 साल में नहीं हुआ।

International Court of Justice के चुनाव में भारत की सफलता पूरे विश्व की सोच में आते हुए बदलाव का प्रतीक है। भाइयों और बहनों, जब योग को United Nations में सर्वसम्मति से मान्यता मिलती है, तब उसका Irreversible Rise दिखता है।

जब भारत की पहल पर International Solar Alliance का गठन होता है, तब उसका Irreversible Rise दिखता है।

साथियों, हमारी सरकार ने डिप्लोमेसी को Humanism से जोड़ा है, मानवीय संवेदनाओं से जोड़ा है। जब नेपाल में भूकंप आता है तो सबसे पहले भारत बचाव और सहायता कार्य में लग जाता है। जब श्रीलंका में बाढ़ आती है तो भारत की नौसेना तत्परता से मदद के लिए सबसे पहले पहुँच जाती है। जब मालदीव में पानी का संकट आता है तो भारत से जहाज़ भर-भर के पानी पहुंचाया जाता है। जब यमन में संकट आता है तो भारत अपने चार हज़ार से अधिक नागरिकों को ही नहीं बचाता बल्कि, 48 और देशों के दो हज़ार व्यक्तियों को भी सुरक्षित निकाल लाता है। ये भारत की बढ़ती हुई साख और बढ़ते हुए विश्वास का परिणाम है कि आज विदेश में रह रहे भारतीयो अपना माथा और ऊँचा करके सामने वाले से बात कर रहे हैं।

जब विदेश में “अबकी बार कैमरन सरकार” और “अबकी बार ट्रंप सरकार” के नारे गूंजते हैं, तो ये भारतीयों के सामर्थ्य की स्वीकृति होती है। भाइयों और बहनों, जब हर संगठन, हर समाज, हर व्यक्ति अपने सामर्थ्य को समझते हुए, अपने स्तर पर बदलाव की शुरुआत करेगा, तभी न्यू इंडिया का सपना पूरा होगा। न्यू इंडिया का ये सपना सिर्फ मेरा नहीं है, आपका भी है। आज समय की मांग है कि राष्ट्र निर्माण से जुड़ी हर संस्था देश की आवश्यकताओं को समझते हुए, देश के सामने मौजूद चुनौतियों को समझते हुए, अपने स्तर पर कुछ संकल्प करे।

2022 में, जब देश अपनी स्वतंत्रता के 75 वर्ष का पर्व मनाएगा, तब तक हमें इन संकल्पों को पूरा करना है। मैं आप लोगों को खुद तो कोई सलाह दे नहीं सकता, लेकिन हम सभी के प्रिय, पूर्व राष्ट्रपति डॉक्टर अब्दुल कलाम की एक बात याद दिलाना चाहता हूं। उन्होंने कहा था -

“हमारे यहां का मीडिया इतना Negative क्यों है? आखिर ऐसा क्यों है कि भारत में हम अपनी ही क्षमताओं और उपलब्धियों से शर्मिंदा रहते हैं? हम इतने महान देश हैं, हमारे पास सफलता की इतनी अद्भुत कहानियां हैं, फिर भी हम उन्हें स्वीकार करने से मना कर देते हैं। आखिर ऐसा क्यों है”?

उन्होंने ये बात कई साल पहले कही थी। आप विद्वत जनों को ठीक लगे तो इस पर कभी अपने यहां से मीनारों में, न्यूज रूमों में चर्चा जरूर करिएगा। मुझे उम्मीद है आप भी जो बदलाव करेंगे, वो Irreversible होंगे।

मेरा इस मंच से देश के पूरे मीडिया जगत को आग्रह है, आप खुद भी संकल्प लीजिए, दूसरों को भी प्रेरित करिए। जैसे आपने स्वच्छ भारत अभियान को अपना मानकर, उसे एक जन-आंदोलन में बदलने में सक्रिय भूमिका निभाई है, वैसे ही संकल्प से सिद्धि की इस यात्रा में भी आगे बढ़कर साथ चलिए।

Shri J P Nadda at the High Level Roundtable on “Accelerating the Elimination of Malaria in the South-East Asia Region”

India has reduced its new malaria cases by one third

India has reduced its new malaria cases by one third, and even crossed the malaria mortality targets of 2020. This was stated by Shri J P Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare at the High Level Roundtable on “Accelerating the Elimination of Malaria in the South-East Asia Region”, here today. Shri J P Nadda further said that with nearly ¾ of the share of the regional burden, India’s successes have significantly contributed to the reduction of the burden of malaria for the entire South-East Asia region.

Health Ministers from the countries of South Asia Region, Heads of Country Delegations, Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director, WHO South-East Asia Region and Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, WHO, Deputy Director General Designate also graced the occasion.

Speaking at the occasion, Shri Nadda said this success comes against the backdrop of the political leadership and support that health programs have received in India. “The commitment to ensure health for every person in India comes from the highest office of the Government. It is Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji’s vision to see health and development reach to the furthest corners of our country, and use the very latest innovations in technology and implementation science to achieve these outcomes,” the Union Health Minister elaborated.

Shri Nadda stated that that the majority of malaria cases in the country come from the bordering districts, forest and tribal areas, while most of the remaining parts of the country remain malaria free. “Addressing malaria therefore, is not only an issue for India’s aspiration of achieving universal health coverage, but also achieve it with equity, Shri Nadda added

Reiterating the commitment to eliminate Malaria, Shri Nadda stated that the focus on the bordering districts and empowering local authorities with information, tools and knowledge will help malaria reductions in India and its neighbors. The Union Health Minister further said that India as a hub for research and science would also support malaria implementation research, as well as capacity building in health research.

At the function, Shri J P Nadda also launched the book “Addressing the challenge of controlling malaria across international border lines” and unveiled the Regional Action Plan (2017-2030).

The three-day ministerial roundtable on accelerating elimination of malaria in the South-East Asia region is in consonance with the United Nations Assembly Resolution on consolidation and accelerating efforts to control and eliminate malaria.

Also present ate the event were Asia Pacific Leaders Alliance against Malaria, representatives from the Asian Development Bank, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, members of the Strategy Advisory Group for Malaria Elimination and various development partners.

Navika Sagar Parikrama - Tarini Enters Lyttelton

INSV Tarini entered Lyttelton port (New Zealand) today during it’s maiden voyage to circumnavigate the globe. This is the first-ever Indian circumnavigation of the globe by an all-women crew. The vessel is skippered by Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi, and the crew comprises Lieutenant Commanders Pratibha Jamwal, P Swathi, and Lieutenants S Vijaya Devi, B Aishwarya and Payal Gupta.

Smt Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon’ble Raksha Mantri had flagged-off INSV Tarini from Goa on 10 September 17. The vessel has covered 7800 Nautical miles from Goa, crossing the Equator on 25 September 17 and Cape Leeuwin on 09 November 17.

The indigenously-built INSV Tarini is a 56-foot sailing vessel, which was inducted in the Indian Navy earlier this year, and showcases the ‘Make in India’ initiative on the International forum.


The expedition titled ‘Navika Sagar Parikrama’, is in consonance with the National policy to empower women to attain their full potential. It also aims to showcase ‘Nari Shakti’ on the world platform and help revolutionise societal attitudes and mindset towards women in India by raising visibility of their participation in challenging environs.

The vessel would return to Goa in April 2018, on completion of the voyage. The expedition is being covered in five legs, with stop-overs at 4 ports: Fremantle (Australia), Lyttleton (New Zealand), Port Stanley (Falklands), and Cape Town (South Africa). Presently, the vessel has covered two of the five legs of the voyage, with the first port halt at Fremantle (Australia) in October.


The crew has also been collating and updating meteorological, ocean and wave data on a regular basis for accurate weather forecast by India Meteorological Department (IMD), as also monitoring marine pollution on the high seas. They would interact extensively with the local populace, especially children, during the port halt to promote Ocean sailing and the spirit of adventure.


The vessel is likely to depart Lyttelton on 12 December 17.

“120 BEATS PER MINUTE” bags Best Movie award at IFFI 2017, receives Golden Peacock Trophy

The 9 day long International Film Festival of India 2017 concluded today in a colourful closing ceremony held at Goa. The theme of this year’s IFFI was ‘Connecting the World through Stories’. Various prestigious awards including Golden Peacock, Silver Peacock, Life Time Achievement Award and Indian Personality of the Year Award were conferred during the star studded ceremony.

French movie ‘120 Beats per Minute’, directed by Robin Campillo bagged the award for Best Film in IFFI 2017. The award came with the Golden Peacock trophy, certificate and a cash prize amount of Rs. 40, 00,000 shared between the Director and the Producer equally. Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, for his role in 120 Beats per Minute bagged the best actor award, picking up the Silver Peacock. 120 Beats per Minute tells the story of a group of activists in Paris in early 1990’s, taking on government agencies and major pharmaceutical companies, battling for HIV/AIDS patients.

The Best Director award was given to Vivian Qu for the film ‘Angels Wear White’, who bagged the Silver Peacock Trophy and cash prize of Rs. 15,00,000. While Parvathy Thiruvothu Kottuvata was awarded the Best Actress award for the Malayalam film “Take Off”, Nahuel Pérez Biscayart won the Best Actor Award for the film “'120 Beats per Minute”. Both received the Silver Peacock Trophy and cash Prize of Rs 10,00,000 each. Special Jury award, which carries the Silver Peacock Award and a cash prize of Rs. 15,00,000, was awarded to Mahesh Narayanan for his Malayalam movie ‘Take Off’. Kiro Russo received the award for ‘Best Debut Feature Film of a Director’ for his Spanish Movie ‘Dark Skull’.

Shri Amitabh Bachchan, award winning and acclaimed actor was honoured with the Indian Film Personality of the Year 2017 for his contribution to Indian Cinema. The 75-year-old actor's glorious career has spanned almost five decades, in which he has been decorated with a plethora of national and international honours.

 Acclaimed Canadian filmmaker, Atom Egoyan was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award at the closing ceremony of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2017.  The festival also honoured his work with a special film section that had screened 3 films produced by the 57-year-old filmmaker. Atom Egoyan is best known for his films "Exotica", "The Sweet Hereafter" and "Chloe". The lifetime achievement award consisting of a cash prize of Rs. 10,00,000 is conferred upon a master filmmaker for his/her outstanding contribution to cinema.

The ICFT –UNESCO Gandhi Medal was awarded to Marathi Movie 'Kshitij- A Horizon', directed by filmmaker Manouj Kadaamh. This award, instituted by the International Council for Film & Television, Paris and UNESCO is given to a film that portrays the Gandhian values of peace and harmony. The film is set on the life of Vacchi, 12 year old daughter of a sugarcane field labourer, who overcomes various challenges to pursue her education.

The closing ceremony of IFFI 2017 was anchored by Karan Johar, Sonali Bendre and Zaira Wasim and eminent Indian film personalities such as Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Bhumi Pednekar, Sushant Singh Rajput, Sidharth Malhotra and Huma Qureshi graced the closing ceremony. The closing ceremony also witnessed scintillating performances from singer and composer Papon, enthralling the audience with his soulful voice and music and from actor Sidharth Malhotra with his dazzling dance performance.

Ministry of Water Resources pavilion bags Gold Medal in IITF – 2017

NMCG pavilion gets Appreciation Certificate

The pavilion of Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation bagged gold medal in the in the Ministries/ Departments category for excellence in display in the just concluded India International Trade Fair- 2017 New Delhi. Large number of visitors including students and youths visited the pavilion and showed keen interest in the exhibits. Several quiz competitions were organised for the visitors to make them aware about various water resources related issues including water conservation, drip irrigation, inter linking of rivers etc.

Shri Akhil Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation received the Gold Medal award from Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Shri CR Chaudhary at a ceremony in New Delhi yesterday.

The pavilion of National Mission for Clean Ganga received appreciation certificate in the PSUs/ EPCs/ commodity boards, banks and other govt. departments/organisations category for excellence in display in India International Trade Fair- 2017 New Delhi. Shri DP Mathuria, Executive Director (Technical) in National Mission for Clean Ganga received the appreciation certificate from Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Shri CR Chaudhary at a ceremony in New Delhi yesterday.

President Shri Pranab Mukherjee will confer National Award for Divyangjan Empowerment 2017 on International Day of Persons with Disabilities

The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind will confer the “National Award for Divyangjan, 2017” at a function organized by Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on International Day of Persons with Disabilities i.e. 3^rd December, 2017 in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. On this occasion, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Minister of States for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar and Shri Ramdas Athawale will also grace the occasion.

On International Day of Persons with Disabilities i.e. 3^rd December  the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment presents National Awards to Individuals, Institutions, Organisations, State/District etc for their outstanding achievements and work done towards empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. The National Awards are presented in 14 main categories hereunder:-

I.          Best Employee/Self Employed with disabilities;

II.          (a)  Best Employers &  (b) Best Placement Officer or Agency;

III.          (a) Best Individual and (b) Best Institution working for the Cause of Persons with Disabilities;

VII.          Best District in Providing Rehabilitation Services;

Within stipulated date, out of the above 14 categories, 984 applications were received from 13 categories. Four Scrutiny Committees constituted by the Department as per the rules have scrutinized the nominations and were their recommendations are considered by the National Selection Committee. The National Selection Committee met on 10th and 16th November and recommended 52 persons / institutions for the awards.

Skill India partners with Airbnb to Upskill Hospitality Entrepreneurs

Partnership builds on Airbnb’s commitment to support Skill India mission by creating and Empowering 50,000 Hospitality Entrepreneurs in India

A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed here today between National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Tourism and Hospitality Sector Skill Council (THSC) with Airbnb, the world’s leading community-driven hospitality company.   The MoU will provide hospitality skills training to hospitality micro-entrepreneurs in India.   Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri  Dharmendra Pradhan said, “We believe that this partnership will help to augment Skill India Mission by bringing in global best practices for the training of small hospitality entrepreneurs. The domestic tourism has immense potential in India and this partnership will benefit the ecosystem by creating opportunities for women and youth.  We will extend all possible cooperation to make India a tourism hotspot.”

Regional Director of Policy for India, Southeast Asia and ANZ, Mr. Brent Thomas said, “This partnership will help to create more skilled, digitally-literate hospitality entrepreneurs - especially among the women and those in underserved areas - who can create a homestay in every home, offer authentic experiences in every Indian locality and help spread the benefits of tourism”.  

The signing of MoU is in line with the Government’s endeavor to promote entreprenuership under the Government’s Skill India Programme. NSDC is the implementation arm of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. 

Through the partnership, the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Airbnb, NSDC and THSC will work together to create an accredited skill development module for hospitality entrepreneurs offering homestay facilities, unique accommodations and local experiences.

Building on Airbnb’s commitment to support Skill India Mission by creating 50,000 hospitality entrepreneurs in India, the MoU signed today aims to empower more citizens, including those in rural and underserved areas to join the ‘alternate accommodation’ sector and pursue new livelihood opportunities by sharing their homes.

Under the terms of the MoU, the parties agree to:

• ESTABLISH occupation standards and competency matrices for job roles and develop the courses for hospitality entrepreneurs offering homestay and facilities, other unique accommodations and local experiences for travellers;
• CREATE standards for certification and accreditation as per the requirements and global benchmarks of Tourism and Hospitality industry for hospitality entrepreneurs offering homestay facilities, other unique accommodations and local experiences for travellers;
• SET the framework for long-term Council-Industry partnership;
• STRENGTHEN the Skilled Labour Pool required by Tourism and Hospitality industry.

Atom Egoyan conducts a Master Class at IFFI 2017

Canadian stage and film director, writer and producer Atom Egoyan hosted a special Master Class on Day 8 at the 48th International Film Festival of India.

Atom Egoyan is one of Canada’s most celebrated directors and was knighted by the French government and is a Companion of the Order of Canada, the country’s highest honour.

While his film Exotica, which won the FIPRESCI Prize at Cannes’94, was his first international breakthrough, The Sweet Hereafter, his most critically acclaimed film, received two Academy Award nominations. His other films Where the Truth Lies, Adoration and The Captive have all competed for the Palme d’Or in Cannes.

Exotica talks about a dutiful wife and mother re-examining her veneration of her husband after she finds another woman’s underwear in his laundry. Her quest to find the truth leads her to an unexpected journey of liberation.

The IFFI 2017 Atom Egoyan's Master Class held on 27th November was a treat for budding filmmakers and cinema aficionados, as he discussed his filmmaking style and other aspects of direction.

Atom Egoyan says, “I think for any drama genre film to work, you need to work on the projection through the eyes of a viewer and then the actual transformation happens. There’s this sense of naturalism which I try to display in each of my films, the structure, the story-telling and situations need to be realistic. My stories have always been unconventional.”

Festival Sunit Tandon says, “We are so pleased that Mr Egoyan agreed to be part of IFFI 2017. I have seen his films since long time and his films have always featured at IFFI. It’s wonderful to have him personally here and he will be receiving the lifetime achievement award at this festival tomorrow.”

The Future of Cinema is going to be Digital, the common feeling expressed in the Open Forum Discussion

The last session of the Open Forum in 48th International Film Festival of India discussed on the topic: ‘Digital Revolution…Changing Face of Cinema’. Ujwal Nirgudkar, Member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Sanjay Chandekar, Head of Radio FTII, Pune, Rajendra Talak, Vice Chairman, Entertainment Society of Goa, M. A. Raghvendran, Researcher and Film critic participated in the discussion. Indian Documentary Producers Association President Mike Pandey moderated the session.

Ujwal Nirgudkar while elucidating on digital revolution in cinema said “In 2008 we started to use digital technology for cinema. Now many changes are taking place in digital revolution, so ‘High Ultra Definition’ will be reality in India very soon”. Digital technology is really wonderful thing, but the problem lies with storage capacity and duration, he added.

Sanjay Chandekar, Head of Radio FTII, Pune said that digital technology has offered wings everybody to fly. Digital technology offers more options to user. In sound industry the problem is that sound engineers are not able to judge digital technology. Audio is in both optical and digital combination.

Talking about Entertainment Society of Goa’s future projects, Rajendra Talak informed that new integrated complex for film festival will come into place in 2019. ESG is coming out with more and more technology driven projects, he informed. M. A. Raghvendran film critic also expressed his views on digital revolution in cinema.

IDPA President Mike Pandey concluded the session with saying that everybody wants excitement, that’s why technology driven films are making good business.

Counsel General of Canada Jordan Reeves talks about Meditation Park at IFFI 2017

Canada partnered with the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to be the ‘Country Focus’ for the 48th edition of the event.

The press conference related to the Canadian movie Meditation Park was attended by the Counsel General of Canada Jordan Reeves, and the cast and crew of the movie including producer Stephen Hegyes, director Mina Shum, and actors Cheng Pei Pei, Tzi Ma and Don McKellar. Besides talking about Meditation Park, the panel members spoke about the India - Canada collaboration and dealing with a movie budget model in countries as well as the stereotypes Asians often face.

Jordan says, “One of the things that really impressed the Canadians was the encouragement, the warm welcome and the hospitality. Some of the discussions we've had this week have been very exciting. Canada had a couple of things that we wanted accomplished here. First was to provide a platform for Canadian films, artists and filmmakers and the other was to increase collaboration between our two main industries.”






Director Mina Shum adds, “The inspiration for the film, the character in many ways comes from the idea that we live in world where citizens feel completely powerless. We can't do anything about the environment or the corporation. So I wanted to create a character that was powerless within a family structure.”

About Asians battling stereotypes in the movie business, Tzi Ma said, "We have challenged and fought against the portrayals of who we are. We also want to be participatory in terms of the shaping, the image and the way the world sees us. I think it is changing slowly. Within the parameters of Hollywood, we as actors need to take a more proactive position into what they see and what we see."

Mukesh Chhabra hosts a special master-class at IFFI 2017

Renowned casting director, Mukesh Chhabra has made a substantial contribution to Indian cinema by introducing some of the most remarkable talents in the country to the world. Having worked closely with award-winning filmmakers for landmark movies, the cinephile today conducted a master-class at the prestigious International Film Festival of India, 2017.

Associated with critically acclaimed and commercially successful films such as Gangs of Wasseypur, Shahid, Kai Po Che, Highway, Haider and Dangal, the casting director addressed the topic,  ‘Characterisation and Casting for Cinema’ at his master-class session on 25th November, 2017. With years of cinema expertise, Mukesh successfully heads his own casting company and is a credible authority to open the topic to conversation. The said master-class was an interactive session that sheds light on the exact requirements of the entertainment industry today.

During the master-class he said, “Casting is one of the core aspects of filmmaking. I'm glad it's being talked about at film festivals as well. I want to help talented people meet the right directors. I love casting more as it gives me happiness. While working on a project, I only follow my script while casting. As far as Bollywood is concerned, only your talent will take you further, not contacts. If you’re talented, nepotism doesn’t matter.”

The 48^th Edition of IFFI will take place from the 20^th to 28^th of November, 2017 in the beach state of Goa. IFFI is India’s biggest and Asia’s oldest film festival, making it one of the most prestigious in the world.

Mumbai International Documentary Festival 2018 gets overwhelming response 792 films in fray for Golden & Silver Conch Awards.

Prize Money for Golden Conch Award doubled to Rs 1 million

The much awaited documentary film festival in India, the Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short and Animation Film or MIFF as it is known popularly, will see the grand inaugural on 28 January, 2018 at the National Centre for Performing Arts, Mumbai.  The week long fiesta of best documentary, short fiction and animation films from across the world will conclude on 3^rd February.

The oldest and largest film festival for non-feature films in South Asia, which began in 1990 is organized by the Films Division, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India. The Organizing Committee of MIFF is headed by the Secretary, I&B and consists of eminent film personalities, documentary makers and film critics.

The response to the 15^th edition of MIFF has been overwhelming, signifying a vibrant documentary culture in India and the world.  The festival directorate has received a record 790 entries, with 194 entries from 32 countries in the International competition and 596 entries in the National competition.  Selection Committees have been set up to evaluate the entries and recommend them for National and International Competition Sections.

Giving a major boost to the documentary movement, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has approved doubling of prize money for the Golden Conch Award winning Best Documentary Film in the International Competition to Rs 1 million (Rs 10 lakhs) from the earlier Rs 500,000 (Rs 5 lakhs). 

Golden Conch, Silver Conch and trophies with handsome cash awards are part of the competition in categories like Best Documentary, Best Short Fiction and Best Animation film.  Besides, technical awards will be given for Best Cinematography, Editing and Sound Design.  Other highlights are the Pramod Pati Special Jury award, Best Student Film and Best Debut film award all of which carry trophy and cash awards.  Indian Documentary Producers’ Association (IDPA) and the Government of Maharashtra, through Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari join hands with Films Division in instituting awards.

The festival directorate is constituting two Juries consisting of eminent film makers from India and abroad to judge best films in both International and National competition.

Apart from films in various competition categories, best documentary short and animation films produced in India and abroad will be screened under special packages including Jury retrospectives and best of festivals.  Special packages like Russian and Turkish animation films, French short films, NFAI Archival packages, films from South East Asia are being organized.  There will be screening of films in Homage section too.

On the sidelines, cinematography and pitching workshops will be held during the festival providing a rich and wholesome experience for film makers and cineastes. A business platform for documentary film makers is being planned by FICCI during the current edition of MIFF to help film makers find funding and screening avenues in India and abroad.  The proposal is in initial stages.

The coveted V Shantaram lifetime Achievement Award for promotion of documentary movement in India will be conferred upon an eminent documentary film maker chosen by an independent jury. The Award money for the Lifetime Achievement award has also been doubled from Rs 500,000 (Rs 5 lakhs) to Rs 1 million (Rs 10 lakhs).  All together cash awards of Rs 5.8 million (Rs 58 lakhs) will be given away during MIFF 2018.

While feature films generally address the entertainment needs of people, documentaries fill up the information needs of people.  In a bid to make MIFF a people’s festival, the delegate fee has been kept at a modest Rs 100 while there will be no fee for student delegates. The screenings will be held in the theatres in Films Division complex, 24-Pedder Road, Mumbai and nearby Russian culture Centre from January 29, 2017. Come to Mumbai and celebrate the documentary movement. 

About Films Division: Established in 1948, Films Division has pioneered the documentary movement in India. It has documented the transformation of India as an independent nation through a series of news reels and Indian News Review, which today form part of rich archival footage.  Over the years, Films Division has produced over 9,000 titles, out of which nearly 2,000 titles hold lasting value.  Besides undertaking documentary production in house, Films Division supports the Independent Documentary makers through its Outside Production plan scheme. Recently, it has also joined hands with Civil Society Organizations (NGOs) engaged in documentary and short film production by routing film production endowments.

‘Crowding the Social Media: Is Documentary the only source of Genuine Information’

Open Forum session with the theme – ‘Crowding the Social Media: Is Documentary the only source of Genuine Information’ was attended by Manish Desai, DG, Films Division, Siraj Syed, Senior Journalist, Dheep Joy Mampilly, Deputy Director (Social Media Cell) PIB; social media experts and aspiring documentary filmmakers. The session was moderated by Shashwat Gupta Ray, (Resident Editor – Gomantak Times).

Shashwat Gupta Ray said, “There is hardly anybody left today who is untouched by the social media. Most of us are connected through the social medium. Interestingly, the divorce cases have increased because of the over consumption of social media by married men and women as there’s hardly interaction left between the married couples.”

“Films and documentaries are also not untouched anymore. It’s a vital element that we are discussing today. My view is more of an issue of content and the medium through it is liberated than the medium itself. The concern is whether the content that is being generated is for which platform. And accordingly, we need to work on that front.”

“The digital age has been changing dramatically. The digital revolution has totally redefined the documentary filmmaking. Anybody who has a smartphone can be a documentary filmmaker because over a period of time and the advent of social media, the trend of micro documentary genre has come to fore across the world. The structured documentaries have their own rules and regulations and they want to bring a change in the society in a particular way,” added Manish Desai.

Filmmaker Atanu Mukherjee promotes ‘Rukh’ at IFFI 2017 Day 7

Over the years, IFFI has gained the reputation of being one of the most awaited events amongst cinema lovers from around the globe. It’s an attempt to weave the audience and filmmakers through a narrative that combines culture, language and the heritage of different visions.

The Indian Panorama: Meet the Directors on Day 7 of IFFI 2017 was graced by Atanu Mukherjee, director of the Hindi feature film, Rukh and Pooja Gupte – cinematographer of the movie. The movie talks the journey of a boy, Dhruv, who studies at a boarding school way away from his home. He is not aware about the problems happening inside his home till he gets news of his father passing away. He is in a dilemma whether his father has actually passed away or it’s a planned murder. That forms the basic crux of the story.

Antana Mukherjee said, “It’s a great honour and I’m excited to be part of IFFI. Shooting my debut film has been a great journey – right form conceiving the idea and developing it – it was a memorable journey. I’m happy that it’s a part of Indian Panorama and has been screened at the Indian Panorama and has got a very good response.”

Pooja Gupte added, “Manish Mundra is one of the finest producers and he picks up scripts that he has supported including ‘Aankho Dekhi’ among others has been commendable. I’m glad that he has supported us throughout the film. He is someone who everybody looks out to work with.

‘Meet - the Directors’ - Cinema of the World' opens doors to new ideas

International Film Festival of India 2017 has lived up to its endeavor to connect and showcase stories with themes never explored before. At Asia's biggest film festival, Italian filmmaker Andrea De Sica and French film producer, Sandra Da Fonseca discussed their respective films, Children of the Night and Montparnasse Bievenue at a feature called, Meet the Directors - Cinema of the World'. Both the films had very unique themes and made for an enlightening conversation at the festival.

Interestingly, ‘Children of the Night’ is based on a true story. It revolves around a 17-year-old Giulio sent to a boarding school for difficult offspring of rich families.  The teen finds a good friend in Edoardo. Taking advantage of the relaxed nocturnal security at the school they both start running away to a nightclub in the middle of the woods, where they meet Elena, a young prostitute whose destiny will be unforgettably linked to theirs. The night is a space of freedom, of new and perturbing experiences for the students but what they don’t know is that their transgressions are part of the educational program of the school.

Talking about the inspiration to make the film Andrea said, "It comes from my personal experience when I was in high school. I met a guy in Rome and it's full of noble folks like prince and princesses. I met this prince, he was 16 like me and he was a very kind guy. We hung out for a while and I discovered he was attending boarding school for four years. I was really impressed because I thought that boarding school in Italy were very old and didn't know that they existed. Later, I discovered that he was under trial for murder. It freaked me out and I decided to make this film."

The other film that was a talking point, ‘Montparnasse Bievenue’, a French film isabout a person who is broke, has nothing but her cat to her name and doors closing on her face. Paula is back in Paris after a long absence, she meets different people along the way. There is one thing she knows for sure, she is determined to make a new start and she'll do it with style.

Producer of the movie, Sandra said, “The film premiered at Cannes Film Festival. We are very happy that the movie is travelling all over the world to India here in Goa. Thank you to the festival for showcasing the movie.”

Sushant Singh Rajput & Shekhar Kapur hosts an engaging Master-class at IFFI 2017.

Padma Shri, BAFTA and National Award winner Shekhar Kapur along with Sushant Singh Rajput, Actor hosted an engaging and interactive master-class at the 48^th International Film Festival of India on Day 7 at IFFI 2017.

Having made a spectacular directorial debut in 1983 with the multi-award winning Masoom, Shekhar gained international recognition with the 1994 Bollywood film Bandit Queen, for which he won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi, Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie and Best Direction for that year. It was premiered in the Directors Fortnight section of the 1994 Cannes Film Festival and was screened at the Edinburgh Film Festival.

From questions ranging from learning the various aspects of filmmaking right from the scripting stage to eventually putting up the final product together on the big screen and collaborating in the near future, the actor and filmmaker thoroughly entertained the crowd comprising of filmmakers, aspiring actors and his fans. The popular filmmaker with a great sense of humour had the crowd in splits with his hilarious repartees as he spoke on several aspects related to his journey and evolution as a filmmaker.

Talking about his camaraderie with Sushant Singh Rajput, Shekhar Kapur said, “Sushant is a brilliant actor and has a good understanding of cinema. We share a great rapport and always keep discussing stories with each other and working together on a movie project.”

Sushant, who has always pushed boundaries and taken risks every step of the way through the course of his career, started the conversation by asking challenging questions to the filmmaker who he deeply admires and respects.

Talking about his participation in the master-class Sushant added, “I’ve come here to listen to the master Shekhar Kapur like everyone present here and I have certain questions to ask him. I started off a science student but my interest always lied in performing arts. I was sort of confused in my head and started looking for answers. I'm really proud to be part of the engaging session and grateful to Shekhar Kapur for answering all my questions.”

PM Shri Narendra Modi addresses valedictory session of National Law Day - 2017

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today addressed the valedictory session of the function to mark National Law Day – 2017, at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. 

He described the Constitution as the very soul of our democratic structure. He said the Day is an occasion to pay homage to the makers of the Constitution. He said the Constitution has stood the test of time, and proved the naysayers wrong.  

The Prime Minister quoted extensively from leaders including Dr. B.R Ambedkar, Dr. Sachidanand Sinha, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, and Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, during his address. These quotations were used to highlight several important facets of the Constitution, and governance. These themes included the longevity (or immortality) of the Constitution, its workability and flexibility.

The Prime Minister said that the Constitution has been a guardian for us. He emphasized that we, the people, must also work as per the expectations that our guardian – the Constitution – has from us. He said that keeping in mind the needs of the country and the challenges facing it, the various institutions of governance should support and strengthen each other. He said that in the next five years, we should channelize our energies to build the New India – the nation that our freedom fighters dreamt of.

The Prime Minister said that the Constitution has also been described as a social document. He said it is indeed unfortunate that the weaknesses that had been identified in our country at the dawn of independence, have still not been entirely eradicated. He said the current time can be described as a golden period when India is full of self-confidence. He said this constructive atmosphere should be used to move swiftly towards the creation of New India.

Emphasizing the importance of "Ease of Living," the Prime Minister said that the role of the Government should be one of a facilitator, more than a regulator. The Prime Minister gave several examples of "Ease of Living" that have been brought about in the last three years, such as quicker income tax refunds, quicker passport delivery etc. He said these initiatives have had a positive impact on all sections of the society. He said about 1200 archaic laws have been repealed. He said ease of living has also had a positive impact on "ease of doing business." He said Lok Adalats can play a key role in reducing pendency of cases in the judiciary. He outlined several other steps that are being taken to improve "ease of access to justice." 

Mentioning the massive expenditure that has to be borne by exchequer on account of frequent elections, and other related issues such as diversion of security forces and civil staff, and impact on development programmes, the Prime Minister called for a constructive discussion on the possibility of holding simultaneous elections for the Union and State Governments.  

The Prime Minister emphasized that balance between the executive, legislature and judiciary has been the backbone of the Constitution. In this context, the Prime Minister also quoted from judgements of the Supreme Court.
