Skill India Mission

The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy has said that the Skill India Mission was launched on 15th July, 2015 to scale up skilling with standards and speed in the country. To achieve this objective, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) launched Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) to enable and mobilize a large number of Indian youth to take up skill training to become employable and earn their livelihood. The PMKVY targets to cover 24 lakh youth through fresh training and certification under RPL. As on 25th April, 2016, 17.93 lakh candidates have been enrolled and 17.58 lakh training completed. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today the Minister said, From the beginning PMKVY has been under constant assessment and evaluation and remedial action has been taken by the Government from time to time to align the scheme with its objective. Further, the Mission is working towards convergence of all skilling efforts under various Ministries / Departments of the Central Government and development of an aspirational National ecosystem of skill development.
