As of now 17 States have set up the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR). The States which have set up the State Commissions are (i) Assam (ii) Bihar (iii) Chhattisgarh (iv) Delhi (v) Goa (vi) Haryana (vii) Jharkhand (viii) Karnataka (ix) Madhya Pradesh (x) Maharashtra (xi) Odisha (xii) Punjab (xiii) Rajasthan (xiv) Sikkim (xv) Uttrakhand (xvi) Tamil Nadu and (xvii) West Bengal.
Section 17 of the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act, 2005 provides for setting up of State Commissions for Protection of Child Rights. The States /Union Territories have been urged from time to time in writing and during discussions with them at the Conferences of State Ministers/ State Secretaries to set-up the SCPCR. Recently, the States/Union Territories have been reminded on 19th November, 2012 to set up SCPCR in their State/Union Territory.
This was stated by Smt. Krishna Tirath, Minister for Women and Child Development, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha on February 22, 2013.
