Recent Publications by the DPD
Publications Division has brought out a number of important books recently covering a wide range of subjects – from biographies to art and culture and captivating books on children’s literature.

            1. ‘Bharatiya Kala: Udbhav aur Vikas’, a Hindi title is a powerful book on painting, sculpture and architecture. It traces ancient contours of various creative art forms, studies their evolution and phases of development in a systemic manner. The book culminates in discussing trends, objectives and problems before contemporary art and gives the reader a comprehensive as well as complete picture of different art forms in India over the ages.  Authored by eminent painter and writer Haripal Tyagi, the book is a masterpiece for any art lover.

2. ‘Saga of Valour’ (Param Vir Chakra and Ashoka Chakra Winners)’ is an English compilation by Reva Dhanedhar, Director, History Division, Ministry of Defence. The book glorifies brave deeds of 21 recipients of Param Vir Chakra and 81 recipients of Ashoka Chakra. It also includes a chapter ‘The Glorious Saga of the Indian Armed Forces’ which briefly describes the major operations conducted by the Indian Armed Forces since Independence. The book also contains rare photographs of various operations and wars and also next of kin of Param Vir Ckakra and Ashoka Chakra Winners.
3. Hindi title ‘Dane-Dane Ki Suraksha’ authored by Shri Mohan Singh dwells upon preservation of grains and our food stock. The book talks about useful techniques of grain and food storage as well as pest control.
4. Hindi title ‘Vyanjanon Mein Gehun Ke Vikalp’ authored by well-known dietitian Ms. Ishi Khosala, describes various nutritious and delicious dishes which can be prepared without using wheat or wheat flour. The author has also mentioned method of preparing 90 dishes suitable to Indian households. The book also deals with Celiac desease caused by wheat and informs about symptoms and reasons of this decease as well as methods to defeat it.

Children’s Books: DPD has also recently published children’s books – Rang Birangi Kahaniyan, Hogi Jeet Hamari, Mizoram ki lokkathayien and Brownie. These books are profusely illustrated in four colours and provide interesting reading material to the children.

5.         Hindi title ‘Hogi Jeet Hamari’ authored by Sanjeevan Jayaswal tries to inculcate love and respect for nature in the minds of young readers.  The book is an attempt to motivate the young readers and create echoes of ecology, non-violence and power of unity in their hearts.
6.  ‘Rang-Birangi Kahaniyaan’, a Hindi title by Dr. Sunita is a collection of folk tales taken from different parts of the country. Narrated in simple language, the stories take the readers to a world of imagination.
7. ‘Brownie’, a Hindi title by Ms. Kamna Singh contains two novella meant for young children. The stories deal with our unique relationship with animals and nature.
8. Hindi title ‘Mizoram Ki Lok Kathayen’ authored by Sarita Barara teaches youths of the rest of India about the lifestyle and culture of Mizoram, an important Jewel of seven sisters of North-East India.
Besides the above titles, DPD has also published as revised editions of some of the popular and sought after books:
9. ‘The Gospel of Buddha,’ an English title is authored by Paul Carus. Reprinted several times, this book has attained the stature of a classic today. The bulk of its contents is derived from the old the Buddhist canon; many passages are literally copied in translations from the original texts; some are rendered freely; rearranged or abbreviated. Dr. Paul Carus captures in a simple and sensitive prose, as Olga Kopetzky has done in her delicate drawings to the volume, the radiant spirit of Buddhist and the poetic grandeur of the Buddha’s personality.

10. ‘Ashok Ke Dharma Lekh’, a Hindi title dwells upon the messages of King Ashok through rock, pillar and cave inscriptions. The book is authored by Janardan Bhatt.
11. ‘Galib Ke Patra’, a Hindi  title is a compilation of letters written by renowned Urdu and persian poet Mirza Galib. The letters desribe social and political life of India in 1857, besides Galib’s personal life in a lucid manner. The book is compiled by celebrated Urdu poet Arsh Malsiani.
12. ‘An Introduction to Indian Music,’ an English title is authored by B. Chaitanya Deva. First published in 1973 this book, besides introducing Indian classical music, outlines a glossary as well tries to make all the notes comprehensible. It is an attempt to introduce the classical music of India to all kinds of listeners who are earnest but baffled by the technicalities.

13. ‘Bengali Theatre – 200 Years,’ an English title is a compilation by Utpal K. Banerjee. The title traces the history of theatre in Bengal and what is now called Bangladesh since the time of Lebedeff. The book attempts to capture the vitality and radiance of stalwarts like Sisir Kumar Bhaduri, Girish Chandra Ghosh, Shambhu Mitra, Utpal Dutta along with a host of others in a compilation.
14. ‘Aaiye Aavishkarak Banen’, a Hindi title, authored by Laxman Prasad and Vinod Kumar Mishra tries to create scientific temper in the minds of young readers by narrating stories of various inventions.
15. ‘Nandu Bhaiya Ki Patengen’ is a compilation of Hindi short stories meant for young minds and is authored by noted writer Prakash Manu.
16. ‘Chaar Baten’, a Hindi title for children by Satyendra Sharat is a compilation of folk stories which are relevant even today and present solution to modern day problems.
 ‘Builders of Modern India’ (BMI) is a much acclaimed and celebrated series of Publications Division on the biographies of torch-bearers in different fields of modern India. The Division brought out following revised editions under this series:
17.  Dr. Rammanohar Lohia a prominent socialist leader and thinker
18.  Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak Indian nationalist, journalist, teacher, social reformer, lawyer and an independence activist. He was the one of the first leaders of Indian Independence Movement
19. Bankim Chandra Chatterji, Bengali writer, poet and journalist and composer of India's national song Vande Mataram,
20.  Sir C. V. Raman: India Physicist and Nobel prize winner
