Ministry wise activities for the
celebration of Festival of Independence 2016
Shri
M. Venkaiah Naidu, Minister for Information & Broadcasting said that the
Festival of Independence being celebrated throughout the country offers an
opportunity for the citizens to remember the sacrifices and contributions made
by great leaders during the Indian Freedom Struggle and National Movement. He
said this while launchingthe theme song “TirangaYatra” based on Independence
Day celebrations.Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore, MoS, Ministry of Information &
Broadcasting and Dr. SubhashRamraoBhamre, MoS, Ministry of Defence were also
present during the occasion.
Elaborating
further, Shri Naidu said that the ‘TirangaYatra’ song captures the patriotic
fervor and showcases the diversity in the country. He said that the Idea of India was being reinforced
through the song and that the song aims to promote brotherhood and the feeling
of oneness among all the citizens. The Minister also released the list of
activities that are going to be performed by various ministries.

o Patriotic
songs will be played on AIR, DD and FM for three days
o Collage of
patriotic songs in all languages will be telecast by DD and other channels.
o
Biography of the composers/writers of patriotic songs like Rabindranath Tagore, Bankim
Chandra Chhatterjee, Muhammad Iqbal, Kavi Pradeep, ShakeelBadayuni, Naushad,
Pitambar Das and others as well as songs in regional languages like
BharatamatakuJeyJejelu in Telugu by Acharya Atreya (1972), along with the brief anecdotal background
will be broadcast before the songs.
o These
programmes will be interspersed with PM’s clip.
o All speech
documentaries will be telecast in local languages also.
o
A theme song on TirangaYatra is prepared for screening
during yatras.

§ Advisories sent to schools and
colleges across all the states/UTs on how to celebrate ‘Aazadi 70’.
§ Detailed set of activities to be
undertaken on the occasion has been prescribed.
It is includes painting, tree plantation, elocution, freedom run, essay
and poem writing, slogan writing, singing patriotic songs, plays with freedom
movement as theme etc.
§ Institutions to invite persons of
eminence to deliver ‘talks’ on independence struggle.
§ School children to visit the birth
places/statues/monuments in their towns/cities – An advisory has been issued.
§ Mass recitation of the National
Anthem by all students at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, 23rd August in all 15
lakh schools and 40 thousand colleges simultaneously
§ Sporting
events to be held in all schools and colleges. Competitions in essay writing,
quiz, debates, painting, drawing and singing of patriotic songs to be
conducted, wearing attires similar to those worn by national icons like Mahatma
Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose et al.

§ Textiles
Ministry to launch Colours of
Independence – a pan India campaign beginning 9th August to 15th
August is being organised. The Ministry proposes to conduct ‘Colours of
Independence’ at 70 cities/towns of national struggle. Huge fabric panel with
the local handloom/motif of dimension 12’x9’ will be placed at people
congregate in each city/town and adequate quantity of four colours , saffron,
white, orange and blue will be made available. People will be encouraged to
express through colour on fabric their own interpretation of independence,
rakshabandhan wishes for the soldiers guarding the borders and their hopes and
aspiration for the future.
§ ‘From Quit
India to Make in India’ campaign – the campaign draws on the intricate
intertwining of the National Movement with Swadeshi Campaign on textiles; bonfire
of imported fabrics and promotion of homespun Khadi was a symbolic platform for
harnessing the popular upheaval against the Colonial Government.

§ Use of Khadi to be promoted in a big way during the
15-day celebratory campaign through KVIC – An Air India flight is being flagged
off on the sector Ahmedabad – London. Complimentary jackets to crew, pilots and
passengers of 1st and business class are being given.

Affairs & Sports
§ On the eve of Independence Day, NYKS
will organize candle light “Tiranga March” in 100 prominent district
headquarters across all states/UTs.
§ At each of these 100 disrict HQs, a
cultural programme on the theme of Tiranga and Nationalism will be organized
involving the youth.
§ In Delhi, NYKS will organize Candle
Light Tiranga March from Old Delhi to New Delhi on a date to be decided by
MOS(IC) for YA&S
§ NSS will also organize Tiranga March
on 22nd August in each of the 350 Universities having NSS.
§ A “Tiranga Painting/Poster
Competiton” will be organized on 21st August in Indira Gandhi Indoor
Stadium in Delhi.

§ Important historic events like Quit
India Day (9th August) Hyderabad Liberation Day (17th
September), Goa Liberation Day (19th December) to be recaptured
during celebrations.
§ Painting, drawing competition for
school children, heritage walks, plantation drives etc ..
§ All
important monuments in the country will be illuminated in Tricolour.
§ Cultural
programmes depicting life histories of icons and stories of freedom struggle
will be held all over the country by seven zonal cultural including at borders
by Easten Zonal Cultural Centre in collobaration with BSF, Air Force and Indian
Army. .

BSF/ITBP/Assam
Rifles/SSB organize special functions at the borders and such functions are
confined only to the officers and jawans.
These PMFs may be advised to invite the people living in the adjoining
villages to be part of such celebrations.
This will encourage the young people of such areas and will create
nationalist fervor among them. – Ministry has identified 18 such points at
international borders (SSB – 6, ITBP-5, BSF-6, Assam Rifles – 1). A concert by
Smt Asha Bohonsle and Kumar Sanu are being organized at border camps. MOS, Sri
Rijuju himself is attending such program at Leh on 15th.

M/o. Defence
§ Women Ministers to visit borders and
tie Rakhi to soldiers on RakshaBandhan Day i.e, 18th August –
Ministry has identified four border points; namely Tenga and Baishaki in
Eastern Command and Baramulla and Kupwara in Northern Command guarded by army
for the visit of woman ministers of union government.
§ Visit is planned for 18th
August. Woman Ministers will cover the
four border points at the Commands.
Logistics are being worked out.

§ Special
campaign to be mounted to highlight the important role played by women in
Independence struggle is being worked out.
§ Special
rakhis are designed for jawans at borders

§ Illumination
of all Government buildings in Delhi is being done by CPWD
