Revival of Mumbai Port Trust

Mumbai Port is functioning efficiently and handled all time highest cargo throughput of 61.66 Million Tones during 2014-15 and 61.11 Million Tones during 2015-16. To increase the efficiency further, Mumbai Port has already taken up many initiatives such as construction of new berths, installation of floating cranes, mechanization of Port operations etc. during last few years. 

Mumbai Port has already awarded contract for capital dredging project to achieve (-) 19 metre Chart Datum (CD) at Berth pocket and (-) 15 metre CD at anchorage of the on going 5th Oil Berth at Jawahar Deep to accommodate large vessels like Suez Max/partially loaded Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC). As per schedule, the completion date of capital dredging project at 5th Oil Berth is 30th November, 2016. 

This information was given by Minister of State for Shipping, Shri Pon. Radhakrishnan in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.
