Jadavpur University, Kolkata has won the 12th National Youth Parliament Competition for Universities and Colleges conducted by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. Thirty institutions from across the country participated in the competition.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy felicitated the winners of the competition. The Running Parliamentary Shield and Trophy for 2014-15 was presented to Jadavpur University here today.
Merit Trophies were presented to : Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Agra, University of Kashmir, Srinagar, University of Mumbai, Mumbai, Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya, Port Blair and Assam Rajiv Gandhi University of Cooperative Management, Sivsagar, Assam.
National Youth Parliament Competition for Universities/Colleges is being organized since 1997-98 to promote among the younger generations the spirit of discipline, tolerance of diverse opinion, righteous expression of views and democratic virtues. The competition also acquaints the students with practice and procedures of Parliament, techniques of discussion and debate and promotes leadership qualities.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rudy stressed the need for promotion of clean politics in the country and noted that money power and those with criminal antecedents getting elected to legislatures have emerged as major threats to democracy. He urged the students to take an enlightened view of politics and contribute to promotion of clean politics.
