Foot over Bridges to Reduce Road Accidents

Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has proposed an all India competition for design of Foot Over-bridges (FOBs) to make them more user friendly. Entries for the all India design competition for foot over bridges have been invited by NHAI with last date for submission as 17.05.2016. Thereafter the entries would be evaluated and decisions will be taken.

Several reasons like non-availability of cross over facilities, inappropriate movement of pedestrians along and across highway, high speeds, lack of visibility etc., are responsible for high pedestrian deaths in the country. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to construct foot over bridges wherever required as per site conditions for which simplified policy guidelines have been circulated by NHAI in March 2016.

This information was given by Minster of State for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Pon. Radhakrishnan in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today (April 28, 2016).
